SWINDON can still finish third in South West 1 East this season, according to scrum-half Connal Knott.

The Greenbridge Road side have not won a game since the end of November but will be looking to bring the unwelcome run to an end when they host Marlow tomorrow.

Swindon currently sit sixth in the table, seven points behind Towcestrians in third, but if they can get back to winning ways soon, Knott believes a high finish is there for the taking.

“We have a good enough squad to still finish third I think and if we can do that we are still on par for last season,” he said.

“It’s easy to get stuck in a trap of straight defeats and get all wrapped up in it, but it’s tricky to sort it.

“We have some experienced players and I know we can do it but we need to break our run and pick up some wins.

“Our home speaks for itself and we have lost at home very rarely over the last three years but we need to sort our form out away from home. We can’t get to grips with the travelling and winning on the road.

“If we can do that, and I’m sure we can, we can still finish third.”

The arrival of new coach Sean Lynn in the summer has seen Knott shifted to the wing from his regular scrum-half positions, with Lynn taking his place behind the pack, but the young player has enjoyed learning from the former Lydney and Cinderford forward.

“I was injured for the start of the season but I’ve enjoyed playing on the wing because it means I’m playing,” he said.

“I’m a scrum-half through and through but if I’m needed anywhere else I will do it. I played scrum-half last weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was like old times.

“Sean has helped me a lot which has been great and I’ve picked up loads from him.

“When I was injured I watched him play because he likes to get the forwards involved, so it was great to learn that gameplan.

“Hopefully I can carry on doing that between now and the end of the season.”

Elsewhere this weekend, Supermarine host Devizes 2nds in Dorset & Wilts 1 North while Wootton Bassett host Reading Abbey in Southern Counties North.

Swindon College Old Boys are without a game.
