PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: Shrewsbury Town Results and Updates

On a day when the weather played an important role in the match, Town were able to grind out an ugly win. However it happened, the 3 points are most certainly welcome. We didn’t play well, the wind assisted free kick by Parry for Shrews brought the game back on level terms on the stroke of half time, cancelling out debutante Michael Smith’s opener. Not to fear, we will playing with the wind 2nd half, only for the conditions to improve slightly and Town had to face a whirlwind from the Shrewsbury players who were the ones blowing strong.

Somehow our defences held against the waves of attack. Just when a point apiece seemed the likely outcome, though the Shrews deserved all 3, against the run of play, that man Ranger was “Jonny on the Spot” to put the ball in the back of the net in the 89th minute. The relief was felt all round the County Ground. There was still time for more action as Smith grabbed his second of the match, after a neat lay-off from Ranger, to make it 3 for Swindon in stoppage time.

Did Shrewsbury Town deserve something from the game? Yes. Were they mugged? Yes. Did the score-line flatter Swindon? Yes. But as they say – That’s Football.

FA CUP Round 4

The 4th Round of the FA cup didn’t throw too much in the way of surprises. There were no romantic giant killings. There were no goal fests over lower opposition. There were only 2 ties that need replays.

The performance of the clubs is somewhat mirrored in our own Predictions League FA Cup. One tie was drawn and will need a replay and not many lower ranking teams triumphing over higher opposition, but there are a few, more than in the actual FA Cup.

The answers to the FA Cup questions are listed below, but there is a caveat to the answers.

The results of the 2 Friday night games only counts towards questions A and E. With that in mind the answers are as follows.

PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: Walsall Update

Swindon are full of surprises. I said on the questions page that I would take a 0-0 draw at the start. But I didn’t listen to my own advice. I nearly predicted a 1-1 draw, but just couldn't see them doing it so plumped for a 2-1 defeat instead.

One ugly win at the weekend, a deserved away point Tuesday. Is this the start of a revival? My heart would like to yes, we could still scrape the play-offs. My head says we’ve already blown it. Prove me wrong boys.
