WALCOT boxer Joe Cuss hopes to celebrate his 15th birthday in style with a debut victory at the Willenhall ABC Club show in Coventry tonight, writes DAVE VEYSEY.
He encounters Joe Augusts from the host club in a light-welterweight contest over three two-minute rounds.
He said: “I’ve been training at the Walcot gym for several months and I’m really looking forward to this bout.
“I had an exhibition bout before Christmas which was good experience for me, but this is the real thing.
“I don’t know much about my opponent, except that it’s his own club’s show and it’s his first contest as well.
“I’ll probably be a bit apprehensive on the night, but hopefully I can keep any nerves under control and box to the best of my ability. If I win it will certainly be a birthday to remember.”
Walcot chief coach Harry Scott is also looking forward to the teenager’s debut.
He said: “Joe is a hard worker in the gym which is a quality I always like in a young boxer.
“He is tall for his age and will need to use his long reach to good effect on Saturday. The other lad will no doubt be cheered on by his home support so it won’t be easy for Joe.”
The action starts at 8pm on Saturday at the Willenhall Social Club and supporters can pay at the door.
