Oldham boss Johnson praises his players

OLDHAM Athletic manager Lee Johnson felt his side were superior in almost every department as they won 1-0 at Swindon Town on Saturday.

Jonathan Grounds scored the only goal of the game with 17 minutes remaining of a turgid clash at the County Ground to inflict on Town only their third home defeat of the season in League One.

After the game, Johnson lavished praise on his players for their performance in keeping Swindon at bay.

"We've come to a tough place in tough conditions and I think we've won the day - tactically, technically and effort wise,” he said.

"We've just chucked that back four together. We've done two days of work on it, which isn't enough work for any back four, but sometimes when you do that it ends up working well.

“They were very aggressive and the two central midfielders offered protection. They were well organised and made sure they were never really threatened.

“It’s a bit of good play by Harkins, a good ball in and it’s ricocheted and Groundsy is there to sweep it up. He hasn’t scored too many goals but I’m sure he’ll be having a shandy to celebrate that. There were good performances all round.”

Oldham still a poor side, just shows how poor we were to get beat. He's right about one thing though, they showed effort and desire and deserved the win for that alone, as we showed none.

Not a great side. Poor game generally but they did the job on us,,,,, quite easily too. They deserved it, we certainly didn't !

looking at the bottom of the table, I think Oldham have just about got enough points in hand for them to stay up. Very disappointing that we have been beaten away by all of the bottom 4 and glad we are not having to scrap with them, as I'm not so sure we have the character in the team to cope with it .

Think Stevenage are all but gone probably with Notts County who have already played 30. Sheff Utd have a couple of games in hand which if they can get something from would put Shrewsbury deeper in trouble. Tranmere(31), Carlisle and Crew (30) are safe at the moment, but their goal difference is bad, with Brizzie 3 points behind and a game in hand them a win would put Crew in serious trouble.

I'll stick my neck out and say Crewe, Shrewsbury, Notts Couty and Stevenage for the drop with Utd and Brizzie just about staying up.
