WES Foderingham remembers the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy heartbreak of 2012 all too well and the Swindon Town goalkeeper is desperate to make amends this time around.

Foderingham was part of the Town side which lost out 2-0 to Chesterfield at Wembley two years ago, as an own goal from Oliver Risser and Craig Westcarr’s late strike sunk the Robins at Wembley.

The 23-year-old told the Advertiser he recalls that warm March afternoon “like it was yesterday” and now, with only Peterborough United standing between Swindon and another visit to English football’s HQ, Foderingham is ready to make amends.

“Anyone who’s played at Wembley knows it’s a fantastic occasion - not just the game but the day itself.

“It’s probably everybody’s dream in England to play at Wembley,” he told the Advertiser.

“The day itself against Chesterfield was a great day but the result wasn’t too good. We’ve got the chance to go back there again and for me personally I’d love to get back there and actually win the final this time.

“I’m sure the boys who haven’t been there will be playing tomorrow night to do their best to get to Wembley.

“I can remember it like it was yesterday - both of the goals as well. Big Oli Risser helped us out there.

“It was a day to remember and a day to forget.

“I enjoyed the day, it will stick with me forever, but obviously the loss will stick with me forever so I want to try to get back there and this time get a win.”

Foderingham suggested that mention of Wembley in the Town dressing room during the days building up to tonight’s area final first leg at London Road has been kept to a minimum, however.

“We’ve spoken about it, we don’t keep speaking about it but we know it’s there and we’ve got an opportunity,” he said.

“We also know we’ve got to play two games first before we can get there.

“It gets mentioned. If a manager comes in and says ‘boys you’ve got the chance to get to Wembley if you win this game’ I’m sure everyone will be running around like a headless chicken trying to win that game, so it’s definitely an incentive for us.”
