SWINDON TOWN: Pritchard and Thompson out of Orient trip

Alex Pritchard has strained a medial ligament

Alex Pritchard has strained a medial ligament

First published in Sport by

SWINDON Town’s selection problems have increased ahead of the trip to Leyton Orient this weekend with the news that Alex Pritchard and Louis Thompson have both been ruled out of the clash through injury.

Pritchard strained a medial ligament during the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Peterborough United on Monday night and faces two weeks on the sidelines, while Louis Thompson has bone bruising on the ankle and will not take part at Brisbane Road.

Meanwhile, Dany N’Guessan will face a late fitness test to decide whether or not he can be selected by manager Mark Cooper after suffering a groin strain.

The trio are joined on the casualty list by Grant Hall, Nile Ranger and Ryan Mason, who has not reached full fitness after a recent side strain, while Jay McEveley and Nathan Thompson are both suspended.

“Alex Pritchard has got a grade one medial ligament strain and will be out for two weeks-ish,” Cooper told the local media this lunchtime. “Dany N’Guessan has got a groin strain and is touch and go for Saturday and Louis Thompson has got bone bruising to his ankle and will not feature on Saturday.

“Alex picked it up in the first half and did remarkably well to play on. Dany reported it this morning. He fancied a couple of days off and then told us today, which wasn’t ideal. Louis has been playing with that for a number of weeks.

“We’ll see if Dany can train tomorrow and take it from there.”

Benson is on loan for the season and cannot be recalled. Plus, he is not the answer any more, as much as he was good (in League Two) while he was here.

Miles should come back though.

Midfield 4 Murphy Kasim Luongo Tijane

Branco in a back 3 - with wing backs - same midfield 3 with Smith and Murphy up top
.
A.Smith or Reckford at LB means Bynre can go wide right or left
.
A.Smith is also a midfielder so could come in for Louis
.
Cox was on the bench at PV to add more bite - so he could come in for Louis
.
Gladwin did pretty good away to Posh - so is an option in MIDFIELD and could easily replace Harley to make it more defensive and add height
.
We added to the squad in Jan for a reason and that was to cover situations like this - if these guys are out for longer we may also look at a loanee to cover
.
Yes we would be better with Pritchard and Ranger - but we have had them out before and got points so can do so again

On the Troy thread earlier today I said, more in hope than expectation, that after Mondays game I would like to see Tjane Reis given another opportunity sooner rather than later.
Well it looks like this selection could now be forced on Mr Cooper. If it is I for one will be delighted, although of course Mr Pritchard and Louis will be a considerable act to replace as both have been in good form.
Still one players injury is another players chance.
Step forward Fried Rice and cook up a storm.

And you and Cooper are happy with these kind of potential line ups... No creativity, no strength and where are the goals going to come from, AWAY from home?

Plus, why is Nathan Thompson omitted from these line ups. I'm sure he was suspended against posh, not injured.

MR
Midland,

Read the article again and you may find out why Nathan T has been omitted.

Not good news but in the face of adversity...

But then again without the 20 year wonder kid...

Love Miles to bits and hope he really does make a go of it for Town or another club but I am starting to get the impression that people are holding him up as some sort of god that is instantly going to change the clubs fortunes. I also get the impression he is being used as ammunition to have a go at Mark Cooper.

In either case it is totally wrong and I just hope, if he reads the garbage written on here sometimes, that he is able ignore it and concentrate on his football.

Good luck Miles.

Obviously I would prefer Ronaldo Messi Kroos and Yaya Toure in there - I'm just a bit more realistic!
.
Wes Ward Troy Byrne Luongo and Kasim are are clearly part of our first XI for the entire season - so why would I suddenly be unhappy with them?
.
Tijane highly rated and now has a chance to show it - so why unhappy about him coming in?
.
Smith too is coming back (remember him Smirg - so there will be no Gladwin up top) and he started with a bang so am happy with him coming in while Nile is out
.
No creativity - so no Tijane Murphy or Luongo in the team then?
.
Goals - well Smith has 3 times the amount Storey has so that's a starting point. Luongo, Kasim and Byrne have all chipped in with some and Tijane and Murphy are also about to score as well as create
.
It's not perfect but it's not the end of the world.

FFs oxen no one said storey is the wonder kid we are all saying its better to play him than gladwin?. If you disagree you didn't go or see Monday Mondays game?.
Cooper embarrassed the poor kid
I was at the game on Monday and playing Ben as a Striker did not work but it may have, hindsight is a wonderful thing. This time last week when Miles was loaned out we had 4 fit strikers (5 if you count Murphy) two games later we are unfortunately down to 2 + 1.

I blame Mark's crystal ball.

I think Oxon you are the one who dose not get it, What people are saying is that with Nile there was all ways a chance that he would be out so why let Story go out on loan and cooper knew Nile would be out due to his court case .Yes story is not Nile but he has pace and none of the other forwards have that so that gives us some -thing else. Copper has done well but also made mistakes and this was a big one. Also when you look around the ground the club are going backwards .

Okay I'll be blunt, I do not think Miles is good enough, yet, and if I am not mistaken on one of the articles it was reported that it was Miles that asked for a chance to play by moving away.

He has played well on occasions when he has come on as a sub and I believe there is a bit too much local loyalty involved in this because of his background with the youth team. He has pace but he is not a Lucas J or a Paul Rideout who were both regulars at a younger age. I worry that we have another Billy Bodin here.

We all pretend to be very knowledgeable about how good a player is but like it or not the manager at a club generally has a lot more than us and sees a player far more regularly. Miles has been on loan at Salisbury and not made the first team regularly and it will be interesting to see how often he starts for Shrews, who only named 6 subs on Saturday.

I want him to do well but IMO he is being built up by too many people and if you look at how they are it is those that are calling for a new managers. Coincidence ?

Looking around the ground, please elaborate a bit more.

Hi Oxon I have no problem with that it would have been better to say you did not rate him in the first place though. Two points though Miles asked to be playing for us so then cooper said he was going to sit down with him and decide what would be best for both . Second point ,when Miles was out on loan he got a injury and although he could play he could not play to his best .This is not inside Knowledge but reports that have been on here. Looking around the ground I see more and more empty seats ,I see no big screen , no buzz , and I think to myself "what a wonderfull world". Have a good weekend Oxon.
