CLAIRE Chard scored two tries but her efforts were not enough to stop Supermarine losing 30-15 defeat to London Welsh on Sunday.

The flanker’s all-action display helped her claim the player of the match award but a mixture of a tough Welsh side and the howling wind proved to be too tough for the hosts to conquer.

Marine were playing into the wind in the opening period, meaning they kept the ball tight in the forwards early on.

Welsh opened the scoring through their winger bagged the opening try before the advantage was doubled by the visiting scrum-half for a 10-0 half-time lead.

Supermarine were back in the game straight after the break as Chard picked the ball up from kick-off and scampered through for her side’s opener, before quickly adding a second following superb work from the forwards.

The impressive Marine attacking display continued as centre Bel Martin-Mulholland crashed over but, despite a spirited display, Welsh were able to cross for a succession of further scores before the end of the game to ensure the points.
