A SPECTACULAR stoppage time volley denied Swindon Supermarine a share of the points at Wimborne last night in Southern League Division One South & West.

The hosts’ second-half substitute Matt Kemble pounced in added time to stun Marine, who deserved at least a point from their performance.

Supermarine started well but failed to find the target as Ash Edenborough dragged two early chances high and wide.

Chris Taylor fired just over from 30 yards before Supermarine had to make several desperate blocks to deny the home side.

Joey Tustain made an instant impact as a second-half substitute setting up Josh Parsons whose shot was saved from two yards.

Parsons went close again on the hour only for his shot to be deflected wide.

But it was Wimborne who finished the strongest and grabbed all the points thanks to Kemble’s late wonderstrike.

Chippenham’s away game against Hemel Hempstead Town last night was called off while in Hellenic League Division One West, Malmesbury Vics lost 1-0 at Clanfield.

Tonight New College Swindon host local rivals Purton and boss Rob Hopkins hopes to make the most of home advantage for a change.

“It’s a local derby and it will be a good one I’m sure,” he said.

“It tends to be a case of them winning at our place and us winning there when we play Purton, that’s how it’s been for the last three seasons.

“They are having a really good season and are pushing for a top four place, Chris (Pethick) has some good players who work well with him and were with us three or four years ago.

“They will want to get one over on us and we want to put Saturday to bed and bounce back with a result of our own.”

Also in action tonight Shrivenham host Wantage Town in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup second round.
