KEITH Mayo is hoping Friday night’s show at the Oasis Leisure Centre is the start of long and successful careers for of his new charges.

The manager/promoter will see welterweight Ryan Martin and cruiserweight Tariq Quaddas make their bow under his banner.

And while this is Quaddas’ third professional outing, the Swindon-based banger is stepping between the ropes for the first time since 2008.

“Shows like this are the bread and butter of the sport,” Mayo said. “It is nice to see the boys come through and get better.

“The likes of Ryan Martin could have a terrific career and this is just the start of it.

“(Tariq) puts a lot into it, he is here at 7am, I unlock the gym for him and he does an hour, hour and a half before work and then he is back every evening.

“I can assure you that he is a hard hitter, so I’m hoping for some good things from him.”

But the star turn of the night will be Mayo’s IBO super-middleweight intercontinental champion Kelvin Young – making his first outing since winning the belt – taking on Tomas Kugler from the Czech Republic.

While this is an eight-round non-title contest, it is a fight that Young cannot afford to lose.

“Now we have Kelvin up there - we just need to keep him there,” Mayo added. “He brings a lot of people in and they like to see him.

“Kelvin is getting better all the time, he is still learning and could go a long way yet.

“This (fight) is going to be a tough one for him, let’s get this one out of the way, fingers crossed he gets the right result, then we will be looking to defend his IBO title around about June time.”

Young will weigh-in for his international clash with Kugler tomorrow night (6.30pm) at the Moonrakers pub in Penhill, with Spain-based cruiserweight Ricky Pow also expected to hit the scales as Mayo lines up a bout with Vaclav Polak from the Czech Republic.

The remaining fighters on the bill, Martin, Quaddas, Joe Beeden and Freddie Kiwitt will weigh-in at the Oasis on Friday (5pm).

Tickets for the show are priced £35 unreserved seating and £60 VIP and ringside. For more information visit www.kmpromotions.co.uk.
