SWINDON Town do not plan to run the rule over any trialists as the League One season draws to a close, with a firm list of targets already identified ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manager Mark Cooper told the Advertiser that the club have received plenty of contact from agents offering them a variety of players in all positions but each and every one of those approaches have been spurned.

Last season Town were inundated with young players looking to prove their worth to the Robins in trial matches but, 12 months on, Cooper and Swindon owner Lee Power do not see the need.

When asked by the Adver whether he’d been offered trialists in recent weeks, Cooper said: “Yes, loads. At the moment we’re not looking at them.

“You take down the name, record the name and you can always go back to them.

“I think we’re in a position where we don’t need to add loads and loads and our targets will be people we’ve identified rather than trialists.

“Agents will ring all the time saying ‘can you look at so and so’ or ‘what are you looking for next year?’ “If they’ve got a certain player that they think can help us then they’ll recommend them.

“Certain clubs are now releasing players or letting players know they’re not getting anything and will email to say ‘so and so is available’.”

Meanwhile, Cooper confirmed that Grant Hall should be in contention for selection when Brentford visit the County Ground on Saturday, provided the centre-back emerges from his run-out in a development XI fixture okay.

Hall was part of the Town side that faced Bristol Rovers in a friendly yesterday and, after almost two months out with a calf injury, looks set to feature in the Swindon matchday squad this weekend.

Cooper, speaking yesterday, said: “I think after today, if he gets through today, then he will be available for selection and then we have to decide whether we change the three at the back, who have played particularly well.

“It’s no good having 45 players or whatever you have in a squad and knowing that 20 of them can’t really help you.

“You’re better off having a smaller squad, knowing all of them can play.”

Jamie Reckord scored the only goal of the game as Town beat Rovers 1-0.
