SWINDON Supermarine hot-shot Josh Parsons believes a less congested April could help fire his side to play-off glory.

The Webbs Wood Stadium striker has been in a rich vein of form of late and with Marine sitting pretty in third place in Division One South and West extending the campaign is a very realistic possibility.

Parsons, who began the current campaign at Hungerford Town and has 27 Southern League and Cup goals to his name this term, says that Dave Webb’s side cannot afford to slip up in the remaining four games of the season starting with tomorrow’s trip to Stratford Town.

“The expectation of this season, after last year, was to reach the play-offs,” the striker said.

“We are in good form at the moment and having got through a congested March (Supermarine played 10 times) I think that it will help playing less games this month.”

During that time Parsons said the side have not trained for six weeks prior to last night.

“It has been a bit strange having a full week’s rest between games,” he said. “We trained last night for the first time in a month and a half.

“It was a bit of a shock to the system, but we were able to work on a few things that haven’t been going so well in the pitch.”

Supermarine have only lost twice in the last 12 matches, a period that Parsons netted 15 times.

And the former Shrivenham and Highworth Town youngster, since his return to the club, has once again formed a lethal partnership with Ash Edenborough, who has scored 21 times.

“We are two completely different players,” Parsons said.

“Ash is quick and likes to get down the channels and that allows me to sit a little deeper.

“We have a really good understanding of each other and it does help that we are good friends as well.”

The striker has already surpassed the target he set himself at the start of the campaign, 20 goals, and he keen to get at least three more.

“It would be nice to that 30-goal mark,” he said. “I always think at the start of the season the aim is for 20 goals.

“Last season I got 21, I’ve already got a few more than that and I’d like it if I can get that 30th.”

Supermarine’s bid for a place in the play-offs was helped by neighbours Cirencester Town on Tuesday night as they beat sixth placed Shortwood United to leave them trailing Webb’s men by six points.

While Stratford come into this match following their long journey to Guildford City on Wednesday night and returned to Warwickshire with a 1-0 victory.
