I would think it's a tactic from them to stop us keeping the ball on the ground, it doesn't travel well through water. Given the pitch conditions it would seem to me leaving Gladwin on the bench and starting with tippy tappy Luango does not look like a very good decision from the manager

Regardless if they were justified or not our team discipline this season has been an absolute disgrace with 8 reds and 106 yellows serious questions have to be asked why we have the worst record by far in the football league.,

And just to make it worse the 9 men have just conceded another, if there was ever a Jekyll and Hyde team we're it.

Well that's probably the most bizarre STFC game I've ever seen. As someone leaving the ground commented "that's the biggest load of b0llocks etc etc.
Hard to disagree and never in it from the time Sheehan was given the freedom to tuck the ball past an unsighted Wes.
Byrne totally ineffective and everybody else not much better. A thoroughly deserved win for County who wanted it far more than we did.
As to the melee at the end well it was like pantomime season come early. TAH apparently clouted their player and had to go and Nathan T who'd already been booked after three hospital tackles saw 2nd yellow presumably for backchat. In the ensuing free for all the ref and 2 Lino's struggled to make sense of it all and a huge joke all round.

The fat lady is no longer gargling she is hitting the top notes!

Congrats to Cooper on getting us so close to the end of the season with something other than survival to play for. It seems our obvious weaknesses were on show again today - midfield unable to cope, ineffective strike force and pi55poor discipline. For all his good work, Cooper does himself no favours by coming on the radio and moaning about the ref when his team has apparently just been comprehensively beaten. As yet we don't know the size of the challenge facing him next season. Whatever, it will be all the more difficult if he doesn't sort out the discipline problem. There's no point in naming names. We all know who they are and they've become all too predictable. Get on top of it Mark.

So would I Den they obviously weren't there and don't like being told a few home truths methinks. We were dire end of and you are right Cooper's ref whinging is no excuse for an abject showing. People say give Smith time fair enough and he was one of our better players today but we are so lightweight up front. Coopr's persistence in playing Byrne up front against two six foot centre backs was puzzling as is only bringing on Miles for a five minute cameo role is strange. Surely to see what if anything the lad has to offer he deserves a good hour run out at the very least and today he could have easily taken Byrne's place.

Maybe we'll see a more experimental line-up next week. Fair enough re Storey. He'll probably get a start next week. My feeling is that Smith is a better bet for the long term though. He's very raw but at least he makes a nuisance of himself. Got a feeling Storey will move on in the summer. New signings might be more important than what we do with our existing players. If we don't strengthen in a couple of areas, I reckon we're in for a very tough season. Can't see Cooper repeating this season's conjuring trick without those additions. Maybe if Ranger stays with us, decides to shake off the baggage and become a proper player he'll be part of the solution. The rest of it will depend on what resources Power or the Del Boy crew can provide. If the latter get in, there probably won't be much left for players after all the important consultancy fees have been paid.

2-0 a fair result, Notts County wanted it far more. Disappointing 'end of season' performance by Town, good job Posh won I suppose as if they'd have lost and we'd missed out from that performance it would have been very disappointing.

Why didn't Storey start? Byrne up front didn't work against Oldham at home (when Barker got a start as well) and it didn't work today either, he's never a front man in a million years. If the criticism against Storey is he doesn't hold it up well, well Byrne made him look like Ranger...

Thought the defence looked very shaky today, Troy far from his best. Fortunately County's finishing was awful.

As for the ref well I normally defend them but this one seemed awful in pretty much all his decision making, ranging from missing a glaring deflection for a corner, to not booking a County player for a tug back, and many more. Didn't see the Troy incdent (and I'm not sure the ref or linos did either) but their lad was lying on the pitch then it turned into the Royal Rumble.

Never seen anything like it when he started the 5 minute card bonanza that followed but it led to some amusement amongst the fans. Troy red got a standing ovation then Nathan red led to '9 men, we've only got 9 men' then Smith gets called over to calls of 'We want 8, we want 8' and a few 'Send him off too' then sarcastic boos for the yellow, then ooooooohs and jazz hands for each of the next 3 yellows as people waited to see what colour they were followed by more boos when the yellow came out.

For the referees amongst us, should the Troy red card incident have been a penalty to them? Even though the ball was out of play at the time, if their player gets taken out in the penalty area should that then lead to a penalty, or is the ball going out of play the first incident?
Well, pretty dire all round but my saving grace today was winning a tenner off a buddy over the score and the fact Sheehan scored like old players always seem too !!

Not happy over the performance, and now for our final game we are minus some important players. The red mist fell again as did the back chat, and then Cooper does his Jose M , Mouron ref impersonation. You cannot blame a Shi'ite team/players performance on the ref. Poor from Cooper considering what he has done this season. He should have nailed a few, perhaps not by name but by actions.

Anyway, full focus now for Tuesday, but would not at all be surprised to see the case adjourned until a still later date, because thats how it goes with STFC. A hugely better season that we all hoped for apart from February when the wheels fell off for a few lamentable games, but on the whole as good overall as many a season over the last few years.
Fingers crossed that Power wins the day, but would love us on our last game to beat the Slug. Pellets are at the ready.

The rest of it will depend on what resources Power or the Del Boy crew can provide. If the latter get in, there probably won't be much left for players after all the important consultancy fees have been paid.
Den don't get your hopes up on Ranger, can't see him being here much longer if this disgraceful CCTV footage is cosha.

He apparently loses his key so can't get in his flat so slaps some small woman / girl (?) 3 times, knocking her flying into the wall with the third, then breaks down the door.

A good season all in all, but still don't like coopers managerial skills, yesterday was a prime example playing smith on his own when clearly we needed all 3 points. Then he sends fodds up for a corner when clearly the game was lost before this.
Thought we would compete yesterday? Clearly not on the shambles we showed. Still we always have the ref to blame?

Absolutely disgraceful. Mind you I don't expect there will be any case to answer as the victim doesn't appear to be too upset and just stands back and folds her arms. Hardly running in fear which one might have expected. Its a shame the footage didn't run a bit further on as it MAY have showed her follow him into the flat.

Be interesting who the third member of the party is.......I suspect criminal damage is all he will face here, but yet again it is something else with Nile.

Yesterday sounded a farce and another away performance where we didn't have the desire which is not acceptable,, pitch, ref or not.

It does make me wonder though on an already poor pitch a club should be allowed to carry on watering. By the sounds of things it was bordering on being a risk to player safety. I do wonder about this modern trend of watering pitches at every opportunity, surely you prepare a pitch for a game and then get on with it. Even at the CG we are watering right up to kick off.

If you were there you would have seen it differently!
We finished with 9 but didn't actually start with 11.
Only Pritch, Luongo, Mcevely, Troy and Nathan Thompson were really interested.
You need the 11 selected to play as a team and we only showed glimpses of the passing and moving that will unlock any team.
When the player on the ball has nobody showing for him, he has little choice but to take on the player, hit it long or go sideways or backwards.
The ref was poor, for instance - why would you not book a player for pulling back Mass when he ran at the defence and looked to be heading for goal with plenty of other options too. We got a free kick and nothing came from it!
It also took Loius Thompson to point out to the ref on 85 minutes that Jack Grealish played the whole game without shin pads on! Don't think the ref could see past his Mag-pie belly.
We are so inconsistent with our performances, perhaps it's time to have a structure of pay related to the performance of each player?

I didn't comment on the performance of any individual, including the ref, as I wasn't there. We picked up 2 red cards and several yellow ones. Is that not a pretty good indication - yet again - of the poor discipline in the club?
Cooper has got to sort them out.

As for Ranger, surely even his most committed apologists will be struggling to find an excuse for this one. And if anyone still wants to trot out the old "it's his private life" line, maybe they should think about the bad injury he's supposed to be recovering from. Kicking in a reinforced door is no doubt going to bring on the recovery in leaps and bounds.

As yet we don't know the size of the challenge facing him next season. Whatever, it will be all the more difficult if he doesn't sort out the discipline problem. There's no point in naming names. We all know who they are and they've become all too predictable. Get on top of it Mark.

Fair enough, we all know that ref's hand out cards for abuse and backchat but can you ever remember a game this season where we've had a ref that has favoured us?
As you've commented on Ranger's attitude, It cannot be of help to the club to have him around as he surely unsettles the less committed players.
Danny N'Guessan for one, started the season well, but as with his other clubs failed to live up to his potential.

Keep Nile Ranger and my season ticket will be returned!
You may be not alone with that. There is only so much most will tolerate, and with the added threat of the return of Jedco many this weekend will be considering options for their Saturdays next season.
Love the club they will still do, support the club from a distance, they will still do, but despite their protests, even if Jed does come back, they will still buy on the day, as the supporters will still be here after all the players, managers and owners have all come and gone, because it is the supporters that are the life blood of every club. We may not always see the wood for the trees, we may not know the inner workings of what is going on either in the board room or dressing room. Yes we have had our ups and downs with the managers, chairmen, players and sometimes each other, but we are the guys that will always be here, and what is going on is but a brief hic-up in the overall history of this club.

I think we're agreed on Ranger. I'd add that he has unsettled the committed players at the club, hence the manager going cap in hand to them to ask for Ranger to be accepted back into the fold. It doesn't matter how good a footballer he is or how good our results are with him in team. Some things are more important. This has to be the last straw.

Sorry but I don't accept this stuff about refs being biased against us. We get it every season on here and I bet it also crops up on the forums of every other club in the land. I understand that the Notts County fans thought yesterday's ref favoured us with a lot of his decisions. It's human nature to see it in a biased light - conveniently remembering the ones that go against us and forgetting the ones that might have given us a nudge in the right direction. And yes, I can recall a number of those. I've seen bad tackles by our players go unpunished I've seen our players get away with play acting and I've seen good shouts for opposition penalties denied. I'm told that Nathan Thompson might have been off long before he did eventually walk yesterday. On the radio it was said that McEveley clearly ran the ball out of play but no throw in was given. Some go for you, some go agin you. In the end the better team usually rises above it all - and there seems to be no disagreement about who was better yesterday.

Maybe if Ranger stays with us, decides to shake off the baggage and become a proper player he'll be part of the solution. The rest of it will depend on what resources Power or the Del Boy crew can provide. If the latter get in, there probably won't be much left for players after all the important consultancy fees have been paid.
I agree i also think Storey will be moved on, would like to try him out for one more year, but with only 20 contracts being offered this season i can not see one of them being offered to him,he is just not good enough at the moment plain and simple.

Wilesy, I don't think the ref can give a free kick or penalty if the ball is not in play. There was a time when they couldn't award a free kick for an off the ball incident - I think that may have changed now - but I believe they've always been able to give a penalty, even if the ball is at the other end of the pitch, but it has to be in play. I'm not a ref. That's all from memory so it could be outdated or just plain wrong!

What I would like to know is why is there no statement from the Club? They would have known about this being in the a national as they would have informed them. The silence speaks volumes. This sums up EVERYTHING that is wrong with football as it stands.

No wonder we are in the mess we are in, if this is how the board react to every off-field incident, boardroom and ownership struggles included if they bury there heads in the sand every time. A short statement saying that the club are helping the police with their enquirers and they condemn this sort of behavior would go a very long way. Don't we even have a PR department? Because if we do, there is a saving we could make.

I am sick to death of having a club that I have supported for over 40 years being brought into disrepute, by off-field antics. We we never learn?

A great shame.

Nile Ranger is clearly a man with many deep issues. His priority should be getting them sorted and not playing football. If this is glossed over I fear he will only repeat these horrible behaviours and that is not reasonable for himself or the community.

I stand with others. Sad as it is to say, he should not play for Swindon Town ever again.

I don't want to condemn his possibilities of changing. Change is always possible in my opinion. But it does not come about by repeating behaviours and hoping that the outcome will be different.

Nile is continually making dreadful choices - how on earth one can hit a woman (or any defenceless person) is beyond me. I don't want to see him line up for STFC (or any team) next year.

Swwindon61,

Yes, we do have bigger things to worry about. But my point is, we SHOULD be issuing a statement. This is all over the national news. Are we a professional outfit or not? It would seem the latter.

Living where I do, maybe I see things differently to if I was still local, but even here, people are condemning his (alleged) actions.

Just what sort of reputation do we want? We had the Luck McCormick foray, the ranger trial, which he was cleared, but all the negative press that came with that, the takeover shenanigans and now this.

We are looking like a total mickey mouse outfit. The PR / Press team, should be all over this. There is a good chance that we knew about this before hand as it happened on the 13th, and if that is the case then it is even more outrageous, as in any other walk of life he would have been sacked instantly.

Totally agree John, the thing is the courts do not share our viewpoint, and this is reflected in their handling of these cases and the punishments metered out. In days of old he would have received a good slapping before and after court. Nowadays all folk are interested in is to whether things are politically correct or not, personally I'd arrange for him to be given a total beating if it were my daughter involved, somewhere where his cries for help would not be heard.

He strikes me as being breathtakingly dim. So dim he doesn't know that there's a CCTV camera at his front door. Dim that he kicks a door in because he's lost his key. Dim that he has to mete out his frustrations on a young woman.

Exactly the same if the ex Plymouth keeper McCormick had stayed.
No matter if people say that you give them another chance, when they have taken the rest of their victims lives away or ruined another persons life in such a way.
My personal views would even come before the love of my club.
As I too have been a regular home and away since the 70's, but how far do you let player power go?

I doubt you are right on this. Jockster is no doubt a good follower of the football team. He demonstrates rudeness to others in his comments bordering on arrogance. others hide behind him and it is possible that commentators simply do not like him but do not want another put down, why would they. A few of the commentators here seem to want to end every day by attacking directly the opinions of others by scrolling through every single comment and disagreeing. Just because a few of you want to use this site to boost your own ego, or seemingly so, most just want to express an opinion without having to pick a fight over it. I have stated this before and got slagged off for it, and before you comment further, I am just defending a position and responding to downright bloody rudeness. I realise the scoring system is there for just this reason, why cannot others see this too. I for one cannot be arsed to explain my dislike of every single point of view by ticking a box, but many do, and, why not!

The Ranger situation has put many of us in a difficult position. Some of us thought he should never have been signed. But we couldn't change the fact that he was a Town player. Perhaps even more difficult, he was a very good Town player - during matches at least. The crux of the matter is that STFC has given him several chances. He has continually spurned them and brought the club into disrepute. He's now stepped a very long way over the line. Enough is enough. For the sake of the name of Swindon Town we need a no nonsense statement from the club tomorrow.

Den,

This is by far and away your very least intelligent post in recent years.

I quote from your comments above,

''The Ranger situation has put many of us in a difficult position. Some of us thought he should never have been signed''

''Some of us'' who thought Ranger should never have been signed, is in fact ME, if you look back over the season in total.

Your double standards are quite simply sickening!!

If you wanted to check (I'm not suggesting you should waste your time) you'd see that's the case. You would see that I've upset the pro-Ranger supporters with my view that he shouldn't have been signed and, later, that he should have been sacked. I have said many times that IF Ranger would change his ways he could be an asset the club. That doesn't mean I suddenly think it was right to sign him or that I think he shouldn't have been sacked over his disrespect for the club. It's just a recognition of the fact that he's a very talented footballer who is contracted to play for us. This isn't a competition or even an argument. We have always held the same views on Ranger. The only difference between us is that I have commented on his football skills and you haven't. If I have sickened you I'm sorry, but that can only be because you've misunderstood me.

For the sake of the name of Swindon Town we need a no nonsense statement from the club tomorrow.[/p][/quote]Den, This is by far and away your very least intelligent post in recent years. I quote from your comments above, ''The Ranger situation has put many of us in a difficult position. Some of us thought he should never have been signed'' ''Some of us'' who thought Ranger should never have been signed, is in fact ME, if you look back over the season in total.
