JASON Doyle insists he is fully fit to lead Leicester against parent club Swindon this evening but wouldn’t be too disappointed if rain got in the way.

The Australian barged off his bike by Latvian Maksim Bogdanovs during the second round of the Best Pairs in Germany nearly two weeks ago but, despite hitting the deck hard, left the incident with only cuts and bruises when it could have been a whole lot worse.

A week away in Portugal with his partner has done Doyle the world of good and he returns to the saddle tonight against his parent club, although the meeting is in some doubt due to projected rain.

“It’s been pretty good to be honest because I was able to get away for a week because I had a big gap between fixtures,” Doyle told the Advertiser.

“I’m one lucky guy to be honest because the crash was a big one but I didn’t break my leg and didn’t damage my knees. Luckily I wear knee braces, like a lot of the boys are starting to wear now, and I’m all fixed up and ready to go.

“I’m ready to go and can’t wait to get back on the bike, but if it is off then it will give me even more time for my leg to heal up. I hope it’s on, but if it’s not then it’s not a huge drama for me.”

Doyle, who has recently moved to Norfolk having been based in Swindon last year, has enjoyed his first few months with Elite League new boys Leicester but admitted the Lions share the Robins’ troubles at reserve.

“At first I didn’t really know what to expect at Leicester but I’ve been surprised at how professional they are, how well they pay and how everything is done,” he said.

“They tick all the boxes and it’s been a good move for me.

“Our top five has been going really well but the reserve thing has hit us a little bit. They’re hit an miss a little which is the same Swindon have been and that makes things hard.

“From my point of view it isn’t good for the young guys to come into the team like this because it either makes them or breaks them. Quite a few have been broken this year and that doesn’t help them.

“Hopefully those guys can sort it out for next year.”

Leicester are without Robins’ asset Simon Stead tonight with Sam Masters standing in while he rides for Sheffield in the Premier League.

Patrick Hougaard is also missing for Leicester due to injury with Birmingham rider Ben Barker guesting in his absence.
