NEW Supermarine chairman Hywel Rees says that he is open to rugby league club Swindon St George formalising their relationship with his rugby union side at South Marston.

A core of St George players trained with Sean Millwaters’s rugby union side during the season and the St George squad for the 2014 season features 14 players who are involved with Marine.

St George are currently based at Swindon RFC’s Greenbridge Road facility, having moved there from Supermarine a few years ago.

Now, with the informal level of interaction going on between the clubs, the prospect of a move back to Supermarine would be welcomed by Rees.

Rees told the Advertiser: “We would be delighted if they chose to join us, several players from their group have been with us over the union season and I know a few of our lads are playing with them.

“We would be happy to offer them facilities if they wanted to join it’s something we’re definitely interested in.

“They’re cross skills that can be used all the time, we’ve enjoyed the indifferent ideas they have about things and hopefully they’ve learned something from us “It (the informal partnership) seems to be working so far they’re good bunch of guys, and especially on the social side they boys that joined in have been really helpful.”

Swindon St George captain George Cowley said that he would have to put his team first and if it best served St George then a move is something he would certainly consider.

“I want to do what is best for our club,” he said.

“If I can provide out players with better facilities and our opposing players with better facilities and hospitality then it’s a no-brainer.”
