Rosco: It’s damage limitation at Arlington

Swindon Advertiser: Alun Rossiter Alun Rossiter

ALUN Rossiter has admitted tonight’s trip to Eastbourne will be an exercise in damage limitation.

The Robins go to Arlington with Premier League six-pointer Justin Sedgmen at number one in place of Peter Kildemand, who is on European Championship duty in a meeting which is not formally recognised by the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters Association).

Rossiter is refusing to give up hope going into the meeting but accepts his side face the tallest of tall orders against a team who always enjoy a significant home track advantage.

“It’s going to be tough and it really isn’t ideal at all for us but we will go there and do our best,” he said. “It’s sort of damage limitation really to be honest but we will go there and give our best.

“A point would be nice and maybe even a bit of a miracle so if the boys can step up and get that I will be really happy.

“It would be a huge boost to us and I’m sure all the boys will be giving it their best shot.”

Rossiter is also hoping Sedgmen delivers after pushing for some time for an inclusion in the Robins fold.

“Justin keeps telling me he wants to guest and wants more rides, so he’s got it now,” Rossiter said.

“I’ve explained the position to it and he’s up for it so there’s no better time to prove himself.

As well as facing an Eagles side who are unbeaten at home this season, Rossiter believes he and his riders will also be up against a track doctored to suit the home side at every opportunity.

“The way they prepare the track down there is really quite hard because the gates get doctored down there,” he said.

“You’re not only up against the good riders but also a consistent doctoring of the gates.

“It happens, only at Eastbourne, nowhere else, and it’s completely blatant. I can’t see how the referees let them get away with it.”
