AFTER 26 attempts Kelvin Young finally has an opponent for his first defence of his IBO inter-continental super-middleweight title.

The Penhill pugilist will square up against tough Argentine Cesar Hernan Reynoso at the Oasis Leisure Centre on June 7.

The 27-year-old’s manager Keith Mayo said that he was relieved to have finalised the deal for the bout.

“We have spoken to 26 potential opponents,” he said. “I’m so relieved that we have finally got one - it has been so tough.”

Young’s trainer Richard Farnan said that they started researching the 27-year-old South American on Monday night as negotiations began.

And with the deal now complete Farnan will put a game plan in place to try and stop Reynoso, who has been campaigning at middleweight, from taking Young’s belt.

“He is a formidable guy,” Farnan said. “He’s tough, he schooled the Urguayan number one Rafael Sosa Pinto.

“He is coming over here at short notice in a title fight and he has got nothing to lose.

“Ideally I would have liked more time to prepare but it is what is.

“He has never been beyond six rounds before so that has got to be our aim, take him into the later rounds.

“These guys are always in the gym so he will be fit - no questions about it - we just need to fight our fight and take the fight into the latter stages and hopefully he will tire.”

Farnan is also relieved to have finally got an opponent after going through some many options.

“Keith told that they had been through 26, and we said yes to half of those,” the trainer added.

“For one reason or another they haven’t come off. I’ve got eight days to prepare for this guy, next time I want at least a month.”
