DAVID Howell is hoping that he will see a vast improvement in his game today as he tees off in the Nordea Masters in Malmo, Sweden.

The 38-year-old has gone back to the drawing board this week in a bid to stop his alarming slump in form.

Having spent time studying his swing and hitting the ball, the Broome Manor pro has also been working with the European Tour putting specialist ahead of today’s tournament.

“That has been really interesting,” Howell told the Advertiser. “We have been working on a few things trying to pin-point where I have been going wrong.

“I haven’t been putting anywhere near I know I can and that is hugely frustrating.

“For so long I have been playing on instinct and not been working on anything technical.

“But that has run its course, I’ve had to look at where I was going wrong and question what I was doing.”

The Swindon star heads into the tournament at the PGA Sweden National on the back of missing his last three cuts, and while Howell admits that has been frustrating he wants to see signs of improvements ahead of anything.

“If I can see signs that these technical improvements are working I’ll be happy,” he said.

“I’m feeling a lot more confident with my putting and that is just after two days work.

“Of course, I’m not sure how that will translate itself on the green.

“It is feeling strange and a little awkward, but if I can get things going, play well I’ll be happy.”

Howell says that conditions out in Sweden have been a little testing but he has been impressed with how the course at Malmo is looking.

“It is pretty cold out here at the minute,” he said.

“It has been very windy, but I have been impressed with how it all looks for a new course.

“It is an old farmers field and that has been turned into a golf course.”
