It is too early for table-topping talk at Bassett

WOOTTON Bassett captain Darren Beasant insists that he must put all thoughts off hitting the summit of the Wiltshire League out of his mind.

Bassett currently sit third in Division One and head to second-placed Malmesbury knowing that a win could send them to the top should Hinton Charterhouse lose.

Beasant said: “We are only in week five of the season, it is too early to start looking at the league table.

“But yes, if we can get a result against Malmesbury, then a win against Hinton the following week and a couple of other wins then we could hit the turn we our noses in front.

“But we have got to play a quality side in Malmesbury who like us have a good start to the season, they have won their matches by 10 and eight wickets.”

Beasant will welcome back two of his star performers for the trip to The Worthys in wicketkeeper Jack Twine and batsman Jack Dymoke from university.

“It is tough on Josh Smith and Charan (Chahal), they have done really well for us,” Beasant said.

“But I think everyone accepts that the two Jacks have been our top performers.

“Charan is only 15 and he is going to have a lot time in the ones over the course of the season.

“I have virtually a full squad at my disposal and that does give me some tough decisions to make, but I’m happy that I have got this problem.”
