NATHAN Thompson is being monitored by Leeds United and Peterborough United, while his brother Louis is also the subject of interest from Leeds, the Advertiser understands.

No formal approach is believed to have been made to Swindon Town by either Leeds or Posh for either player, though this is not the first time Leeds have been said to be keen on the older Thompson brother.

In May last year, reports linked the Elland Road club with a possible move for the Town skipper following his impressive performances in the Robins’ ultimately unsuccessful League One play-off campaign.

The 23-year-old has since taken on the task of captaining Town and was named Swindon Advertiser STFC Player of the Year for the second term running at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, having made 44 appearances under manager Mark Cooper.

Peterborough, meanwhile, are also believed to be keeping an eye on the defender’s potential availability, though neither they nor Leeds - who are now managed by Dave Hockaday, the former Town player who spent much of last season commentating on the Robins for local radio - have been willing to test Swindon’s resolve to hang onto their captain just yet.

Louis Thompson, Town’s Wales Under 19 international, is also understood to be on the Leeds radar. The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the Robins in 2013/14, scoring twice in 35 appearances for the club.

Recently, Swindon owner Lee Power confirmed that there has been plenty of interest in the two Thompsons.

Speaking on BBC Wiltshire’s fans’ phone-in on Monday evening, he said: “There’s been loads of interest but no actual firm offers. They’re fantastic lads, fantastic players and local boys and there’s been a lot of interest for those guys, but what I won’t let happen is people come in and steal this players.

“They’ll have to pay the going rate otherwise they’re not going anywhere.”
