Turnbull deal close with defender part of squad photo

JORDAN Turnbull looks increasingly likely to join Swindon Town on a season-long loan deal in the coming days after appearing in the Robins’ official team photoshoot yesterday.

The teenage defender, one of Town manager Mark Cooper’s four primary targets this summer, has played in Swindon’s back three in pre-season friendlies against Leeds United and Aston Villa after arriving in Wiltshire on ‘work experience’ from parent club Southampton, and could sign on at the County Ground in time for the League One opener against Scunthorpe United this weekend.

Turnbull was given permission by Southampton to be a part of the Swindon team photo, though he was not permitted to talk to the local media, with a Town source telling the Advertiser that “a deal is close”.

No other new faces were present at the photoshoot, however, as Cooper and Swindon owner Lee Power continue their pursuit of Turnbull’s Saints teammate Jack Stephens, Liverpool left-back Brad Smith and a mystery striker.

The club remain hopeful of making up to four more signings before the transfer window closes at the end of August, with each expected to be a loan deal for players from Premier League or Championship outfits.

Good luck to JT if we sign him and the little bit we have seen seemed OK and able to suit our new shape and type of play but would anybody no what cost implications on the loan deal?, my thought process we let Aaron Oakley go even thou he came through our system and did not feature in the first team after a long term injury and was rated as a Welsh International Player so should have been a decent player?, surely he deserved another season and would have been a cheaper option than JT and very fimilar with STFC, would there be much difference between the two lads other than one was coached at Southampton?. Good Luck to JT but if money is tight and we are happy with Youth (which I am) players being involved perhaps AO was an option.

I think it is safe to say that we are absolutely skint as a club!
Every team around us are getting deals completed quickly, and mostly proper transfers. We are continually scratching around for loans this summer, and always youngsters. Don't get me wrong, you CAN with things with youth, but having a proven experienced player is always advantageous I would have thought! Look at Liverpool with Lambert?!
Power has won the battle with Jed, and told everyone and his dog about the money he has, and how much he has spent, but for the love of god, let the manager have a team that will give us a chance to at least stay in the division!
I suppose we have to ask ourselves, do we want a decent team, with the threat of administration, or a dodgy team, with the threat of relegation, but be financially secure?!
As much as I rant, COYR!!!

"I suppose we have to ask ourselves, do we want a decent team, with the threat of administration, or a dodgy team, with the threat of relegation, but be financially secure?!"

Think you've answered your own question there - administration with our track record could mean liquidation. Simple as that. I'd rather a team in League 2 than no team at all. I also think we're not in any danger of relegation but even if we did go down we'd still have a club. Obviously I'd like us to be challenging for promotion but not at any cost - you've kind of answered your own question on the first part as well -

"Every team around us are getting deals completed quickly, and mostly proper transfers. We are continually scratching around for loans..."

Well only three teams can go up from the division - stands to reason if every team around us are buying players in, possibly with money they can't afford to spend, it won't have a happy ending for most of them.

Can sense and understand your frustration but I don't think we should be expecting too much this season, and the young crop of players may just surprise us all yet. We had young players last season and did well in my view - Peterborough spent a shed load and for my money were fairly poor, never played us off the park and only just managed to scrape into the play offs (know the cup run may have been a factor there but even so).

Money doesn't always buy success, but if you spend money you don't have, it always leads to problems - nothing surer.

Being a Town fan for more years than I care to admit, I don't think I ever enter a season with anything more than a hope that we don't get relegated!
I think having the youngsters in the team is an absolute must, but would feel better with at least an experienced, or proven spine of the team. You could say that Mass or Kasim are those people in the middle of the park, but we could do with an experienced CB and CF. Then let the youth go and play in other areas.
Anyway, whether we have a team of Messi's, or a team of grannies, I will still be there!

I know it's early days but from the performance of Lelan and Turnbull against Villa on Saturday, I don't think they are the answer. I wouldn't be surprised if they are/were the second choice of loan targets and with clubs being reluctant to let players out on loan, these two were recruited so we at least have some defenders on the books. Turnbull really didn't look ready to play to me, hope I am wrong.

Let's hope it's a case of blowing away the cobwebs before the real action starts. If Cooper has had them watched (surely he must have done after the way some of our blind dates turned out in the last couple of years) they should be OK.

Now they have cash in their pocket I wonder if they'll be back to us with an improved offer? Tho, I can't remember if they were in for Thompson or Luongo?

I know it's early days but from the performance of Lelan and Turnbull against Villa on Saturday, I don't think they are the answer. I wouldn't be surprised if they are/were the second choice of loan targets and with clubs being reluctant to let players out on loan, these two were recruited so we at least have some defenders on the books. Turnbull really didn't look ready to play to me, hope I am wrong.
I worked with an incredible chap called Ron Kirton from Bromham in 1979/80, would he perhaps be still alive please?

Fear STFC have put all there eggs in the one basket.
If the 2 players were going to have been loaned to STFC it would have happened. Why all this B/S from MC again lack of truth is a major problem not that players may not come, however why persist as they do Just tell the FANS the "TRUTH"

Not sure what you're driving at here, Cooper hasn't actually been quoted as saying anything on this front, just the adver speculating based on the photo.

This season I am going to try to go to the match and enjoy the footie without geting drawn into the politics forever thinking who is that sat in directors box with Power , who is the loan player , where is the money going , I dont do it at the theatre , I dont do it at the cinema and don't do it at a concert ," I pays me money and I takes me chance ". I did'nt have a clue how much money we had when Bert Head was in charge and I did'nt want to know .
Let the show begin COYR
