MICHAEL Smith believes it’s a nice compliment that teams are changing their systems to face Swindon Town.

On Tuesday, Rochdale were the latest side to go into their shell and look to limit Town.

In tomorrow’s foes Colchester, the fans at the County Ground can expect to see a visiting team looking play on the counter-attack, with Tony Humes’ side having employed that practice to decent effect since his appointment in the club’s top job.

Aside from having another chance to enjoy the respect that teams are clearly paying to Town’s ablity to pass them off the park, Smith is also relishing Saturday’s chance to put right the mistakes from Tuesday’s defeat.

“It’s a compliment that teams are coming away from their style of play just to try and stop us,” Smith told the Advertiser.

“It’s a nice compliment but what we’ve got in the changing room, with the gaffer and Luke (Williams) we’ll go through stuff, work out how Colchester will stop us playing and work around it.

“It’s nice to have Tuesday-Saturday in the respect that we can put right some of the wrongs from Tuesday.

“The boys know themselves want went wrong (on Tuesday) and we’ll put it right on the training ground before we’ll go on the pitch on Saturday.

“We know what we’ve got in the changing room and we’ll go again.”

As a player who had spells at a number of different clubs before permanently signing on with Town last January, it was inevitable the Geordie striker would have the chance to see a few familiar faces this season.

Having travelled but not played at Newport, Smith now has another chance to upset a few old friends at Colchester, something he did not manage last season when the club’s drew 0-0 in February.

“I was there two years ago,” Smith added.

“I had a couple of months there, I really enjoyed my time and I’ve still got a couple of mates there.

“Now I’m really looking forward to Saturday.”
