SWINDON Town have announced the signing of central midfielder Jesse Starkey from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old, who can also operate on the left flank, was announced as a Town player half-an-hour before the close of the January transfer window and becomes Swindon’s third incoming of the day after the earlier loan arrivals of Nicky Ajose and Rohan Ince.

Starkey was a member of Brighton’s U23s set-up and he moved to Sussex in 2013 after beginning his career with Chelsea.

Brighton U23s coach Simon Rusk told his club’s official website: “This is a great opportunity for Jesse and one he's worked hard for over the past three-and-a-half years with the club.

"Ultimately, his aim was to break into the first team here, but this move still represents a significant achievement for him.

"His challenge now will be to force his way into the first team at Swindon Town and on behalf of everyone at the club, I would like wish him well in that aim.”

Starkey, who has also represented England at U18 level, has made 16 appearances for Brighton’s U23s this season, which includes four appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy, scoring two goals.
