O'Reilly is edged out

JACK O’Reilly’s campaign in the Senior Novices Championship came to an end on Saturday night when he lost a pulsating encounter against Bodmin’s Cory Miller.
Horseshoe Gym boxer O’Reilly started the western counties final bout on the back foot as Miller made a fast start.
The Bodmin boxer looked more relaxed in the opening stages and got his punches away quicker than O’Reilly to nick the first round.
O’Reilly responded well in the second round, catching Miller with a crisp counter combination.
Miller was left stunned but just when O’Reilly was poised to jump back on his rival, the referee stepped in to warn Miller for ducking low.
The break halted O’Reilly’s momentum although he had arguably done enough to win the second round.
Round three saw both boxers enjoying good spells but it was the Bodmin boxer Miller who did enough to impress the judges and earned the decision.
O’Reilly’s coach Mark Brown was delighted with his boxer despite the defeat, saying: “It was close. We couldn’t argue with the result and the Bodmin coach said he would not have complained had Jack have got the decision.”
In Chippenham, Horseshoe’s Cameron Lampard lost a close decision to Emeralds’ Callum Ward.
Horseshoe’s boxer are back in action on Friday at Bartonhill in Bristol.
Representing the club are Ashley Meeson, Jordan Willams and Sam Vallis.
Luke Scott-Brown is also in action for Horseshoe in Kidderminster.
