HELLENIC LEAGUE: Purton's Richards wary of Beversbrook
JAMIE Richards is hopeful that Purton can avoid a slip-up when they travel to Beversbrook in the second round of the Hellenic League Challenge Cup tomorrow.
Division One West Purton will be the favourites to progress at the expense of their Division Two West hosts and defender Richards admits Lee Ashby’s side will have plenty of motivation to cause an upset.
“Beversbrook have got quite a few local lads in their side who will be looking to get one over on us,” he said.
“Against a team from a higher league, they will look at it like they have nothing to lose.
“I’ve never seen them play but I’ve seen that they are midtable in the league below than us.
“You never know what will happen in football and you’ve just got to prepare for it properly. The way we have to go about it is to treat it like any other game.
“Hopefully we’ll do the job as we’ve been flying lately. Defensively we’ve tightened up and have only conceded once in the last three games.
“We’ve got Nick McRae back and our squad has got quite a bit of depth in it now.”
Elsewhere this weekend, Highworth entertain Holyport in the Hellenic Premier while Fairford are at home to North Leigh reserves in Division One West.
Malmesbury and New College are without a game. The Hellenic League scheduled a fixture between the teams in error, which has since been corrected.
Vics are unable to host the students as a private function is taking place at the club.
“It’s a bit of shame that we haven’t got a game as we were just starting to hit a bit of form,” admitted College boss Rob Hopkins.
Meanwhile, College will learn their Wilts Senior Cup second-round opponents on Saturday after Wilts Calne Town and Pewsey Vale complete their first-round tie.
