HEAD COACH RYAN ALDRIDGE ON TONIGHT'S WIN

Swindon Advertiser: Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge

"We've got a belief in ourselves right now, but we know we have to work every game.

"We missed Jonas off the powerplay and it's a tough place to come and play.

"To win like that was great for us."

8:55pm

Right. Reaction time.

8:55pm

EPL RESULTS

Manchester 3 Milton Keynes 2 (after PSO), Peterborough 5 Basingstoke 2, Sheffield 3 Slough 6, Guildford 2 Telford 3.

8:53pm

A penny for Ryan Aldridge's thoughts right now.

8:53pm

8:53pm

8:48pm

That's five wins in six now for the Wildcats boys. Great stuff. They retain fifth place in the EPL and secure a four-point weekend.

8:47pm

I don't need a lie down, I need therapy.

8:46pm

8:46pm

RESULT

Bracknell 3 Wildcats 6.

8:46pm

FOUR ON FOUR

Fojtik called.

8:45pm

Wiggins has played his last part in this game.

8:43pm

There are 58 seconds left.

8:41pm

One minute.

8:41pm

GOAL! Bracknell 3 Wildcats 6, 58.06, PP

Nell makes sure for the Wildcats with the assists coming from Kostal and Watt.

8:40pm

FIVE ON FOUR

8:39pm

8:39pm

CATS DOUBLE POWERPLAY

In goes Spearing. That should do it.

8:38pm

Pekkarinen slips and falls in the D-zone. Crikey. That was nearly a disaster.

8:37pm

That should take the pressure off.

8:37pm

CATS POWERPLAY

Harvey Stead called for slashing.

8:36pm

Four minutes.

8:36pm

Just under five minutes left.

8:35pm

Great scrambling from Swindon and Lyle and Moore in particular.

8:35pm

PENALTY KILLED

8:33pm

8:32pm

There is 6.41 left.

8:32pm

BEES POWERPLAY

Pekkarinen called.

8:30pm

Eight minutes left.

8:30pm

PENALTY KILLED

8:29pm

Cats are not making this easy for themselves, in all honesty.

8:28pm

8:28pm

BEES POWERPLAY

Moore wipes out Strycek and is binned for cross-checking.

8:26pm

There are 11 minutes left.

8:26pm

PENALTY KILLED

8:24pm

CATS POWERPLAY

8:23pm

FOUR ON FOUR

Somehow, we're four on four.

8:22pm

The penalty system has been exercised to its fullest extent tonight. It's more a case of what penalties haven't been given.

8:20pm

FOUR ON THREE

Now both Sandvik and Wiggins are called.

8:18pm

BEES POWERPLAY

A couple of scrambles but Wildcats survive. However, Symonds replaces Pekkarinen in the box straight away for hooking. It's another powerplay.

8:14pm

BEES POWERPLAY

Pekkarinen called for holding.

8:11pm

We've played three minutes. Nothing has happened. Yet.

8:09pm

Don't think you'll see Swindon try anything too fancy in this period. All about shutting down the game.

8:08pm

This game is very much still on.

8:07pm

THIRD PERIOD UNDER WAY

8:07pm

8:06pm

8:06pm

Here we go then.

8:05pm

Always the optimist, but the man's right.

8:05pm

Here's to a serene this period. Are we going to get it? I'd be surprised.

7:57pm

The zamboni smoothing things over and we will be back under way in around eight minutes.

7:51pm

Some interesting scores flying around tonight. Still, as we stand, Swindon will end the night fifth in the EPL.

7:49pm

EPL LATEST

Manchester 2 Milton Keynes 2 (in OT), Peterborough 4 Basingstoke 1, Sheffield 3 Slough 4, Guildford 1 Telford 3.

7:47pm

Just another boring game of ice hockey, this.

7:45pm

END OF SECOND PERIOD

7:44pm

One minute.

7:43pm

The Bees look seriously fired up now.

7:42pm

GOAL! Bracknell 3 Wildcats 5, 36.45

Lovely work from Wiggins to carve out a shooting opportunity. Lyle keeps it out but after a scramble Grant Rounding is there to finish it off.

7:38pm

Five minutes left before the second break.

7:37pm

Bracknell must feel pretty flush at this point. It's one of the maddest periods of ice hockey I've ever seen.

7:36pm

BEES BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

7:33pm

FIVE ON FOUR

The Bees get one man back.

7:30pm

GOAL! Bracknell 2 Wildcats 5, 29.59

Finally, the fifth goal comes as Sandvik scrambles in from close range. Very hard to see a way back into this for Bracknell now.

7:27pm

I remember a time, long, long ago, when Bracknell had the full complement of players on the ice.

7:26pm

The officials are spending more time round the Bracknell penalty of than they are in the middle of the ice. I give up.

7:25pm

If anyone has kept up with all these penalties, they deserve a medal.

7:25pm

Mettam saves well on the angle from Sandvik.

7:23pm

Looks like Smital has been booted out of the game altogether.

7:21pm

CATS POWERPLAY (AGAIN)

Strycek is boxed.

7:20pm

FIVE ON FOUR

7:20pm

"You need a bigger box" is the chant from the Swindon fans. Factually correct at this point.

7:18pm

FIVE ON THREE

Completely bonkers. There are FIVE Bees players in the box. Jan Bendik goes in now.

7:17pm

The Bees are doing themselves no favours here.

7:15pm

CATS POWERPLAY

Now there's three Bracknell men in the box. This is madness. Strycek and Smital the latest in.

7:13pm

PENALTY KILLED

7:09pm

CATS POWERPLAY

Spearing sits. It's a 2+10 for a check to the head.

7:07pm

GOAL! Bracknell 2 Wildcats 4, 22.01

Mettam can't hold on to a shot and the puck is worked back to Kostal between the hash marks, and the import finds a gap through traffic to make it 4-2. He's immediately flattened after scoring by Scott Spearing and a pile-up ensues.

7:04pm

SECOND PERIOD UNDER WAY

7:03pm

Lee Richardson's little lad Max is attracting a lot of attention from just about everyone... even the players. Softies.

7:02pm

Impossible in this job. Find me a man who can touch type on an iPad and he can take over!

7:01pm

The majority of the Wildcats players are out early and waiting for the second period.

7:01pm

There's so much red on this liveblog it's making my eyes hurt.

6:59pm

There's so much red on this liveblog it's making my eyes hurt.

6:57pm

6:56pm

We will be back under way in a smidge over six minutes.

6:51pm

You're telling me sunshine. I barely looked up for 20 minutes.

6:51pm

I don't wish to pre-empt anything, but as it stands, Wildcats will end the weekend in the top half of the EPL.

6:48pm

EPL LATEST

Manchester 0 Milton Keynes 1, Peterborough 2 Basingstoke 0, Sheffield 1 Slough 2, Guildford 1 Telford 1.

6:46pm

Moments late, the puck fizzed around two inches past my face. Happily, I was looking at the ipad at the time and didn't look up, and my face and brain are still intact. Ice Hockey Live is OK to continue.

6:45pm

Seconds before the end of that period, Jan Kostal took Wiggins out just by the Plexigas. A thing of beauty.

6:44pm

Goals, penalties, a fight. What more do you want?

6:43pm

END OF THE FIRST PERIOD

6:41pm

One minute.

6:37pm

Three minutes left of the first.

6:36pm

6:36pm

Galazzi calming things down as usual. Handbags round the Cats net.

6:36pm

6:35pm

PENALTY KILLED

6:33pm

CATS POWERPLAY

Bronnimann called.

6:33pm

GOAL! Bracknell 2 Wildcats 3, 12.06

That Finnish flyer Henri Sandvik dives inside off the left wing, barges aside Turner and marshals the puck round Annetts. Gooooooal! Assist Kostal.

6:30pm

Just over eight minutes left of the first period.

6:29pm

GOAL! Bracknell 2 Wildcats 2, 8.48, PP

Player-coach Lukas Smital draws Bracknell level from Pavel Strycek and former Swindon man Matt Foord. I need a lie down.

6:25pm

BEES POWERPLAY

Three players in the box for Wildcats now. Taylor, Watt and Shane Moore. The latter was given a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

6:23pm

GOAL! Bracknell 1 Wildcats 2, 7.46

Bonkers... Nell puts the visitors back in front from Watt.

6:21pm

BEES POWERPLAY

Watt is now in the box.

6:20pm

GOAL! Bracknell 1 Wildcats 1, 4.58

It didn't take the Bees long to find a leveller and it's James Galazzi that gets it. Assisted by the towering Chris Wiggins, who I'm sure you can remember.

6:18pm

6:18pm

FOUR ON FOUR

6:16pm

FIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

Floyd Taylor takes umbrage and he's straight into a fist fight with Lewis Turner. Taylor gets knocked down first but it was a good effort from the lad and he's got a huge smile on his face as he comes off. Watt is straight over to give him a respectful tap with the stick.

6:15pm

A Bracknell shot hit...the ceiling I think.

6:14pm

BOTH SIDES BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

6:14pm

6:12pm

FOUR ON FOUR

Both Stevie Whitfield and Ollie Bronnimann have been binned, the former for slashing. Bronnimann done for high-sticks.

6:10pm

GOAL! Bracknell 0 Wildcats 1, 0.36

Blimey, well that didn't take long. Tomas Fojtik finds himself clean through on Mettam and flicks past the Bees netminder. Bosh. Assists for Watt and Alex Symonds.

6:08pm

FIRST PERIOD UNDER WAY

6:07pm

In nets tonight are Alex Mettam for Bracknell and Stevie Lyle for Swindon.

6:06pm

Done. Huddle time.

6:05pm

Anthem.

6:03pm

EPL LATEST

Manchester 0 Milton Keynes 1, Peterborough 1 Basingstoke 0, Sheffield 1 Slough 1, Guildford v Telford - delayed face-off.

6:02pm

The players have stepped onto the ice.

6:01pm

Yeah, let's 'ave it.

6:00pm

I haven't seen Bracknell's most famous fan yet, TV's Matt Allwright (you'd know him if you saw him. Rogue Traders and all that).

5:59pm

The Wildcats players are starting to filter out ready for face-off.

5:58pm

STEELERS SPELL HAS IMPROVED NELL

Swindon Advertiser: Aaron Nell

Forward Aaron Nell has revealed to the Adver that he feels his time with the Sheffield Steelers has improved him as a player. Having moved to South Yorkshire in the summer, the forward is now on a two-way at Swindon with the Elite League Steelers having first shout on his services.

“I’m up at Sheffield all the time and practise with them a lot and whenever they need me I’m there and ready to take my chance,” said Nell.

“I could have come back and things might not have gone as well as they did last season but thankfully I’ve come here and done well and it’s helped us kick up the table a bit.

“It’s more for Ryan (Aldridge, head coach) to say but I think I’ve come back here a better player and have worked on plenty of things which have helped me. Hopefully that can help the boys and the team.

“To be honest I think I’ve improved off the puck because that’s all about work ethic and I think I’ve put in something extra there and hopefully it shows.”

5:57pm

CHANGING FORTUNES

Swindon didn't beat Bracknell once last season but it's gone completely the other way in 2013/14. Wildcats have three wins out of three on the board which included two victories in one weekend over the Berkshire outfit back in October. Matters have changed at Bracknell since then of course, with Lukas Smital now installed as head coach and desperately trying to steer his team to a play-off place. Time will tell on that one.

5:55pm

We're a matter of minutes away.

5:55pm

Keep those tweets coming in. There's nothing's like more than your 140-character rants.

5:54pm

The club haven't disclosed the problem which is standard practice so as to not create problems as other players may target the injury. Aldridge was quite confident when I spoke to him earlier that Hoog will be back next weekend.

5:52pm

EPL LATEST

Manchester 0 Milton Keynes 1, Peterborough 0 Basingstoke 0, Sheffield 0 Slough 0, Guildford v Telford - yet to face-off.

5:50pm

Feels good to be back in the top five doesn't it? That could all change tonight of course depending on the result here and how Sheffield get on against Slough. I will keep you up to date.

5:47pm

The players have cleared the ice following the warm-up.

5:46pm

WHAT THE HEAD COACH SAYS

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge

I've been on holiday this week but in my absence, deputy sports editor Andy Warren has taken on the Wildcats mantle and he spoke to head coach Ryan Aldridge about his thoughts on this weekend.

“Bracknell always give us a hard game and make it tough whenever we play, so even though it’s an easy weekend on paper, perhaps we have to keep pushing,” said Aldridge.

"We seem to struggle against the easier teams but are able to raise ourselves for the matches against the sides at the top of the league and that needs to change.”

5:39pm

TEAM NEWS

Swindon Advertiser: Jonas Hoog

Jonas Hoog is still out of the line-up for what I understand is a minor problem and he should be OK by next weekend. Sam Smith does not ice but Ryan Watt comes back in after completing a suspension.

5:37pm

5:37pm

SATURDAY RESULT

Wildcats got their weekend off to the best possible start by mauling Peterborough 7-1 last night, which allowed them to jump up to fifth in the EPL table. The Link Centre team stormed into the first break 4-0 up thanks to efforts from Aaron Nell, Jan Kostal, Sam Bullas and Sam Godfrey - the defenceman's first goal for the club. Darius Pliskauskas pulled one back soon after the restart but Kostal's second and further second-period goals from Finnish stars Henri Sandvik and Aku Pekkarinen secured a thumping triumph over the struggling Phantoms. With Swindon's second-choice netminder Michael Crisp thrown on in the closing stages, there was even time for home captain Shane Moore to flatten Erik Piatak after the import dished out a check from behind.

5:36pm

Evening all. I've made the short trip down the M4 to the Hive to bring you live, minute-by-minute coverage of Swindon Wildcats' road game at Bracknell Bees. I hope your schedule is clear for the next few hours as it promises to be another breakneck night of EPL action. They are always good games here (jinx alert).
