JOHN Fisher insists he doesn’t have even the slightest worry about his side playing away from home in the first round proper of the FA Vase this weekend.

Highworth Town make the trip to Windsor on Saturday, looking to beat their Combined Counties League opponents to the next stage of the national competition and earn another £900 of prize money.

Windsor have already claimed the scalps of the Worthians’ league rivals Shrivenham and Binfield on home soil earlier in their Vase run – but a Saturday trip to Berkshire holds no fear for Fisher.

“To be honest, I’m happy that we’re playing away on a Saturday. It’s a proper football day and my boys always perform on a Saturday – it’s just the midweek games that we struggle in,” said the Elms chief.

“We won’t have any problems with players being available and if we draw the game, they’ve got to travel to us on the Tuesday, which is much better than us going to them.

“Does playing away from home really have that much of an influence at our level?

“It’s not like there’s going to be loads of people there shouting and hollering at us.

“I’ve been to the ground before and it’s a lovely ground. I’ve heard that they like to try and play football and that’s going to suit us.

“They’ve beaten couple of Hellenic sides already and we’re going to have to be at our best. We have to play better than we have been doing.

“If we go there and put in a performance, and get beat, then you hold your hands up. We’re looking forward to it.”

Defender Ashley Taylor is Highworth’s only absentee for Saturday’s Vase clash.

Malmesbury Vics will be hoping for another giant-killing feat when they travel to county rivals Bradford Town in the first round proper of the FA Vase this weekend.

Wayne Kibble’s men, who play in the Wiltshire League Premier Division, stunned Bracknell Town in the previous round to earn a reward of a visit to the Toolstation League Premier Division side.

Elsewhere in the Hellenic League Premier Division, Wootton Bassett Town will aim for their third successive victory when they make the trip to Milton United.

Shrivenham, beaten 3-0 by Abingdon United on Wednesday, will hope to end a run of 12 matches without a win as they host Newbury.
