TOWN skipper Nathan Thompson is hoping the nature of his team’s win at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday will benefit them at MK Dons.

Andy Williams’ 70th minute strike meant that Swindon could, to a degree, relax the last 20 minutes in midweek.

With the hard work done, Town tried to control the ball as much as possible and see the game out.

Mark Cooper also took the opportunity to give a break to Thompson’s brother Louis, with Jake Reeves charged with closing duties.

Though the captain and team had to work hard before that point - and with a three games in seven days against table-top sides to come - Thompson felt it was important they could hold something back.

“You always knew coming to Chesterfield, with the way they play, it was going to be a high intensity match,” he said.

“The 3-0 and closing the game out allowed us to relax slightly over the last 20 minutes and will keep us relatively fresh come MK Dons.

“It’s going to be a massive month for us, November. I see no reason why this team can’t go and string a few results together. Before the last few games we were playing extremely well.

“November will be a big month for us, but I think we can come out of it positively.”

Feeling fresher than his teammates after an enforced break due to suspension, Thompson is relishing taking on another League One big hitter tomorrow, but sees no reason why Town can’t come away with a win from Stadium: MK.

“You only have to look at the Sheffield United game - when big teams come to play against us we can expose them,” he added.

“We’re as good as any team in this league and, on our day, I don’t see any reason why we can’t repeat those kind of performances.”
