Olympics: YESTERDAY AT THE GAMES
Student Josh Webb, 20, from Cricklade , was at Earls Court to watch the volleyball with his girlfriend Shauni, 20, of Haydon Wick .
“We don’t know much about volleyball – we just wanted to be part of the Olympics experience,” he said.
“It’s a great atmosphere and it’s exciting to be here. We thought London would be really busy and there might be transport delays, but there were no problems on the Underground at all.”
Josh and Shauni were at the late afternoon session, watching matches between Italy and Argentina and USA and Germany.
Jonathan Tompkins, 44, of Liden, took son Sam, 15, to see the Judo at the ExCel stadium. They watched as South Korea’s Jae-Bum Kim took the Gold in the Men’s -81k category, and Slovenia’s Urska
Zolnir won Gold in the Women’s -63k.
He said: “It was amazing and the atmosphere was electrifying. It was just a shame we didn’t see any Brits win anything, but I never really expected that.
“What struck me was how well-organised everything is and how friendly all the volunteers and stewards are. They all have big smiles and are really chatty.”
