Jubilee Celebrations - From Appleby To Buckingham Palace

MUSIC lovers from Cumbria have the chance to secure 196 `golden tickets' for two special open air concerts at Buckingham Palace to mark The Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Tickets have been reserved for each part of the country to ensure people from across the United Kingdom have an equal chance of attending the Prom at the Palace on Saturday, June 1, featuring classical names such as Kiri Te Kanawa; and the Party at the Palace on Monday, June 3, with stars like Elton John, Tom Jones, S Club 7 and Atomic Kitten.

To apply for one or two tickets, to either or both concerts, telephone 0900-1952-2002, or visit www.bbc.co.uk/queensconcerts The concerts will be preceded by a champagne picnic, and will be the grand climax to the BBC's nationwide Music Live festival.

Successful applicants will be contacted in writing by April 19.

A SPECIAL Golden Jubilee Express train is to be run by the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line on Bank Holiday Monday, June 3, to celebrate the Queen's 50-year reign.

The Friends have secured the use of LMS Princess Royal Pacific No 6201 `Princess Elizabeth' to haul the train both ways from Manchester to Carlisle and return - more than 250 miles by steam.

The locomotive was named in 1933 after the then seven-year-old princess.

This special day out, organised with Ribblesdale Railtours, will also celebrate the 21st anniversary year of the Friends.

The train will be calling at Blackburn, Settle, Garsdale and Appleby en route.

Early booking is recommended - call 0870-7472983 for inquiries or bookings.
