Budding film maker at Greendown

A budding film maker from Greendown has just had his new film, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" shown at the Arts centre. It was part of the competition "Pre-loader" and Lewis Rogers, year 10, made his way to the top 9 out of many other entrants from all over Wiltshire.

Cheer Dance Success

3 weeks ago on Friday some of the Greendown girls took part in a street cheer competition against over schools in Swindon. Key Stage 3 girls took part in the dance category and Key Stage 4 girls took part in the cheer leading category. Both teams won a first place trophy, and we interviewed some of the girls.

'Last Orders' Alcohol Awareness at Greendown

The Solomon Theatre Company came in on Tuesday 25th November 2008 to raise awareness to year 9 pupils about the effects of alcohol. This was a play with a very strong meaning with a workshop lesson later during the day. This contained useful ideas and information about the subject.

Dame Kelly Holmes Runs To Greendown

On the 19th of November, Dame Kelly Holmes visited Greendown School. Here she ran special workshops based on boxing, athletics, netball and cheerleading training. These workshops included pupils from Greendown and many other schools around Swindon. An extremely exciting event! Making Sweet Music From A Pipe And Shopping Trolley

A sound was erupting from deep inside Greendown School. It was not traditional music, a string quartet or a brass band but the noise of pipes banging together and metal crashing in chorus. The Weapons of Sound workshop had arrived for one day in early November and with over 75 students taking part it was sure to be a loud affair.

Make Your Mark Challenge at Greendown

In the early pre-dawn darkness of Monday November 17th, Mrs Mochan (Gifted and Talented Coordinator) turned on her laptop at home to read the secret brief for the Make Your Mark Challenge, the UK’s largest one-day enterprise competition for schools and colleges. At 9am, back at Greendown, she told 35 Year 9s and 10s who were participating in the event, what they had to do. They had just five hours to come up with an entrepreneurial idea - a unique and inspiring product or service which makes money - “inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Values”. Their final presentation to a panel of judges, who had to pick a winning team, had to be supported by financial evidence, a competitors’ outline and a creative response.

An Open Evening Success

Greendown opened its doors for the annual 2-night open evening for parents of children in years 5 and 6 last Tuesday and Wednesday. It was another successful event with over 400 children and parents visiting.
