But in 1990 I moved to a more rural town 20 miles away, started working there and soon found that I considered myself a Wiltshire boy first and foremost. Now able to see Swindon from a distance, I am not blind to its faults, nor unconditionally on its side, and finding myself with a foot in both camps I have learnt to stand up for Swindon and rural Wiltshire in equal measure, often defending one against the residents of the other.
