RESIDENTS at a Highworth retirement development enjoyed meeting broadcaster and comedian Don Maclean so much that they want him to move in.
Don, the former presenter of BBC Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday, opened McCarthy & Stone's Cobbett Court in Highworth earlier this month by cutting a ceremonial ribbon outside the front entrance.
Before the opening ceremony he gave an address to an audience of around 60 residents and visitors, and presented a plaque to the house manager, Dave Rogers.
The plaque will be put on the wall of the development's communal lounge, and after cutting the ribbon, Don joined the residents for lunch.
Sales consultant Gillian Shore said: "Don was marvellous. He chatted to everyone and they were all saying how nice it would be if he moved in."
Cobbett Court is a development of 49 purpose-built retirement apartments, specially designed for people aged 60 and over.
In addition to the communal lounge, the residents share a laundry room, a lift to all floors, a guest suite and a landscaped garden.
Each apartment is connected to a 24-hour Careline system and to TV camera security at the main entrance. A two-bedroom show apartment is on sale priced at £230,950, and a number of onebedroom apartments are are priced from £149,950.
