St Augustine’s Church in Summers Street is hosting a weekend of activities on July 9th and 10th 2011, including The Big Gig, an evening of music and comedy in the church. This is the first major event to be held in the church following the removal of the pews, and the wide open space of the building can be fully appreciated.

From 11am on Saturday 9th July, there will be a Summer Celebration Fete, including a free BBQ 12pm to 2pm as well as games, raffle, children’s tombola, bouncy castle, Nintendo Wii on the big projector screen. Refreshments will be available all day.

At 7.30pm, local band The Misfits will be playing before a performance by Manchester based stand-up comedian Tony Vino. Tony has performs in a non-offensive style, so the event is suitable for all. Tickets for the Big Gig: £6 (before the night) £8 at the door with children half price. Available from St Augustine’s Church 693652/528694, Swindon Visitor Information Centre 530328 / Ticket hotline 466454. Refreshments will be available during the event.

On Sunday 10th July at 10.30 am, there will be All Age Worship – a service suitable for the whole family which will be fun and informal. The church will then be open until 4.00pm and at 6.30pm, there is a Songs of Praise service (outside weather permitting) where we will sing of the most popular hymns as chosen by voting on the Church’s Facebook page, website and visitors to the weekend.
