Swindon Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs for the Blind - Swindon Branch. Bower & Bailey Solicitors of Commercial Road, Swindon presented a cheque to Swindon Guide Dogs Chair Alan Fletcher who was accompanied by his guide dog Joy. The money was raised by holding a raffle as part of the Commercial Road Jubilee Event held on Friday 1st June 2012 and was organised by Amanda Franks owner of Frankly Recruitment.

Alan said “We have twenty guide dogs in the Swindon area and it costs £5 a day to support these partnerships. The £5 pays for dog food and vets bills which comes to an annual cost of £36,400 just in our area alone and all it costs to become a guide dog owner is just 50p. So, as you can see it makes it affordable for anybody who is visually impaired or blind from any walk of life to own a guide dog. The charity also makes a commitment to all its guide dog owners in Swindon and the UK to support them with a dog for the rest of our lives.

The £200 that Bower & Bailey Solicitors raised will support a partnership like Joy and I for forty days or will help to pay for three guide dog harnesses.”

“Two out of every three guide dog partnerships created are through gifts in wills,” according to Alan Fletcher of Swindon Guide Dogs. Stephanie Nunley of Bower & Bailey Solicitors said, “We are proud to be supporting Swindon Guide Dogs and to raise awareness of the benefit to Swindon Guide Dogs from Gifts in Wills.” If you would like to make a Will to include a gift to Swindon Guide Dogs please contact Alison Hill on 01793 610 466.
