Cyclists from across the region are being asked to pedal for Prospect in their Big Bike Ride – one of several new fundraising events created by the Hospice this year.
The event takes place on Sunday 17 July and sees cyclists setting off from F1 Karting, Wroughton Airfield. It consists of two rides; a 15km route around Hackpen Hill for beginners and families, and a 50km route around the Marlborough Downs for the more experienced cyclist.
The 50km route takes cyclists past Barbury castle and through the Ogbournes to Marlborough, before circling back to Wroughton via Mildenhall and the old Marlborough and Chiseldon Railway Path.
One person who has already pledged to take part in the event is Claire Perry, MP for Devizes (which covers Marlborough and the surrounding area) and a keen cyclist herself. Claire will be taking part with her family, and is keen to help raise vital funds for the Hospice: “I enjoy cycling and I’m really looking forward to taking part in Prospect Hospice’s Big Bike Ride. Prospect Hospice provides a vital service in looking after patients at the end of their lives, and providing support and advice to the families at very difficult times. I know that many of my constituents have accessed the services and have experienced the support the Hospice offers and I urge people to get involved and raise money for this very worthy cause.”
Events such as Prospect’s Big Bike are a vital part of the hospice’s fundraising. Each year Prospect needs £5m to deliver its care and services within the community, seventy percent of which it needs to raise itself. If you’re interested in taking part in Prospect Hospice’s Big Bike Ride, please register at www.prospect-hospice.net/bigbike or contact the fundraising team on 01793 816161 Based on information supplied by Ben Holloway.
