Since the launch of the Student Adver in November 2008, we have been constantly surprised and delighted by the sheer talent and imagination displayed by pupils in Swindon who have contributed articles and pictures.

From celebrity interviews, to reportages to opinion, fiction and humour, the town has demonstrated without a doubt we have a bright future if it lies in the hands of our youngsters.

So to give our student contributors some recognition for all their hard work, we are hosting the Student Adver Awards 2010/11.

Each month throughout the next academic year, we will pick our three favourite pieces from the Student Adver, and those 36 people will be invited to next year’s ceremony, in autumn 2011. They will each be in with a chance of being named overall winner in the following categories:

Sport – for the best piece of sports writing.

Leisure – for the best piece about theatre, music, the arts, gaming or any leisure activity.

News – for the best article about a news issue, whether related to school, local community or current affairs.

Humour – for the piece that made us laugh the loudest.

Feature – the best in-depth report into an issue, which could be anything from bullying to fashion.

Art & Photography – for the best pictorial contribution to the Student Adver.

Creative Writing – we love your stories and poems and this will celebrate our very favourites.

There will also be a special overall prize for the Student Adver School of the Year, chosen for the best and most regular contributions.

The judges this year will also have a wildcard, which allows us to choose three extra contributions from throughout the year which we think deserve a special mention and an invitation to the ceremony. The wildcards will be chosen at the end of the academic year, ahead of the awards dinner.

And all students who have received a nomination throughout the year will be given a certificate.

Taking part couldn’t be easier – all you have to do is send us your stories and pictures and you will be in the running to be one of our Student Adver Journalists of the Year!
