On Wednesday 4th February the Lord Mayor of Swindon came to visit Peatmoor Community Primary School. He visited Year 6 and some children had the great chance to interview him. All the children who went to interview him asked a lot of questions and he came up with interesting answers. Here are some of the questions and answers: Q: Do you get paid?

A: “I don’t get paid but I receive an allowance.”

A: “Yes I love my job as Mayor.”

Q: Were you in the army?

A: “Yes, I was in the territorial army.”

Q: Is your chain made of pure gold A: “Yes and it has all the names of the Mayors on so far but there is no room for my name.”

Q: Do you think the future in Swindon is Bright A: “Yes I do and it always has been”

Q: Have people ever tried to steal your chain A: “Yes they have but they don’t realise its pinned onto my suit.”

Q: Do you get any paper work A: “Yes I get a lot!”

Q: Have you ever met the queen A: “A few times and I represent the queen here in Swindon.”

Q: Have you ever met the Prime Minister A: “Yes I have only once though.”

Q: Do you have anything to do with political content A: “No I don’t do anything in court unless it’s important things to do with Swindon Citizens.”

All the children really enjoyed asking him questions and meeting him. Stephanie Tye arranged the interview and was really pleased about the sort of questions the children were asking. Mrs Williams (The TA) was in the interview and asked some questions too. Freyja Stevens (A pupil) said: “I thought it was really interesting learning about his past and what its like to be Mayor.”

Jack Simpkins said: “He’s a very nice man and I found him very interesting!”

The children learnt a lot about The Lord Mayor and would love to meet him again. All the children thought he was a very nice man and thought Swindon are lucky to have him. He’s a role model for all of Swindon.
