Garret McNama, a surfer from America, took part in a surfing competition when a colossal wave built up behind him. Somehow, he managed to cling on to his board as the foamy nightmare crashed on top of him. Luckily, the wave passed over him after a couple of seconds and Garret didn’t sustain any injuries. It’s almost impossible to measure waves but rumour has it that Garret’s wave was approximately thirty meters high!!! That’s the same as five houses or fifteen tall men!
Garret is greatly known due to his surfing prowess. He has travelled the globe, competing in both; international and national contests!
Garret is often found in Portugal, at the small fishing village he rode the record- breaking wave.
A group of locals commented on his phenomenal skills: “The waves here are exhilara-ting, but when Garret rides them we’re lost for words!”
Garret’s talent may be spectacular but he has had many close calls: "One time he was riding a fifteen foot wave in Australia when he was attacked by a shark. He just about made it to shore with only a gash to the leg.''
The entire village thinks Garret is the be- st surfer ever!
Without doubt, Garret is one of the most successful surfers in the world!
His phenomenal skills will always be remembered, even when he dies and, when he’s deceased, his surfboard will be placed in a museum.
The highlight of my year has defiantly been meeting Garret and watching him surf. He really was as great as the locals said!
This is Peter Watkins, saying Good night.
