Fundraising ideas

This section is full of creative ideas on how you could raise money for Swindon Cares but before you put on your creative hats you need to make sure that any fundraising you organise is legal and safe. Before checking the ideas and deciding how you plan to fundraise please bear in mind the following key safety points:

No one under the age of 16 should be involved in collecting money. Children should not approach strangers about their event and should always have the permission of a parent or guardian to attend or participate in an event.

Never make collections with buckets in the street or other public place without first obtaining a public collection license and the permission of the landowner.and please don't knock on people's doors unless they are friends or relatives.

Events which are zany often work very well. Please do not organise any hazardous events, as fundraising is no fun if someone gets hurt. Depending on what you are planning and the number of people involved, you may need to advise the emergency services, or think about providing medical facilities like St Johns Ambulance. Also seek advice on public liability insurance and check whether any venue has insurance that will cover your event.

Make the most of people around you who may be able to offer help and/or specialist advice. Why not consider linking up with other local businesses, schools, Rotary clubs, etc to boost funds? Boring as it may seem, there may well be some regulations and legal constraints to work within when organising your event. Don't forget to check well in advance.
