Bassett's tour joy
WOOTTON Bassett under 11s claimed a superb victory at Torquay Athletic RFC's Easter Festival - their first rugby tour.
The Wiltshire side opened up with a 14-0 win over Tamworth, Sam Fry and Edward Geerah scoring the tries, converted by Conner Tomley and Brandon Spillane.
Facing the hosts next, Bassett led through a Tomley try at half-time and added another in the second half through centre Owain Kinsman for a 10-0 triumph.
The match against Gosport would decide the title and Bassett again edged out their rivals, Fry touching down for the only try to secure the silverware.
MINETY RFC's efforts to promote girls' rugby have been acknowledged by the Rugby Football Union.
The club were runners-up in the President's XV awards behind Derby RFC, picking up a trophy and a cheque for £100.
Cliff Garland, head coach of Minety's Junior Section, said: "We are delighted with the way that our girls have played this season and with the efforts that everyone has put in to encourage and support girls' rugby.
"To have this effort officially recognised by the RFU is a great honour and encouragement."
Girls are an ever-present feature at Minety in the mini and junior section but this season they registered under 15 and under 18 teams with the RFUW for the first time.
The club also had girls included in both the under 15s and under 18s Dorset & Wiltshire teams.
Any girls that would like to be involved at Minety can contact Garland on 01666 860907.
