A COUPLE from Haydon Wick celebrated 62 years together by tracking down the best man.
Joyce and Dennis Rogers travelled to Torquay last weekend to meet Ted Lee - whom they had not seen for 12 years.
Mr Rogers said: "It was lovely to catch up.
"He took us around Torquay, showing us the sights, which were beautiful.
"When he left, me and my wife looked around ourselves and had a lovely time."
The couple met on a train carriage in Bude, Cornwall, in 1945.
Dennis was on a break from the RAF and Mrs Rogers was on holiday with her father.
While on the train Joyce noticed an RAF coat in one of the train carriages.
So she decided to get her dad to sit in there with her - and with Dennis.
"She always tells me she looked out of the carriage and saw an attractive airman holding a newspaper and hoped the coat would be mine," said Dennis.
"By the time I left the train, Joyce had written her address on my newspaper.
"And that was the beginning. We knew from then."
They were married at St Bartholomew's Church, Wootton Bassett, in 1946 - a year after their first meeting.
"It was love at first sight," Mr Rogers insists.
"Over the years we have had our ups and downs but we both generally agree with each other and enjoy similar activities.
"We spend all of our time together and it is wonderful.
"One exception was when my wife went on a cruise with a relative.
"I told her to take advantage of the situation and she went all over the place, including the Caribbean.
"I did my travelling when I was stationed in Iraq so thought she would love it and she did."
