YOUNGSTERS put on their running kits to raise money for their deaf peers.
Every pupil at Moredon Nursery and Infants School, in Moredon Road, ran around the perimeter of their playing field on Thursday.
Altogether 400 of them raised £1,000 for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).
Some even ran in fancy dress, which included a Peter Pan, Spiderman and others wearing pyjamas.
Four laps equalled the distance of a mile, with some of the Year 2 children running as many as 10 or 11 laps each.
Pupil Connor Stacey, seven, from Haydon Wick, said: "It was great fun and a big challenge to do - but I like challenges.
"I did eight laps and had a good time.
"It is important to give money to deaf children."
Lucas Peachey completed 10 laps. The six-year-old from Moredon said: "It was fun and very exciting."
While seven-year-old Tom Jenkins added: "It was a bit hot out there but we all took part."
Brandon Hemmedy, six, Aiden Smith, seven and Fathema Miah, six, all took part and enjoyed their 40 minutes of exercise.
Year 4 pupil Josh Connor, nine, from Moredon, said: "I have raised £11 in sponsorship and it is a good idea to raise money for charity."
Teacher Glenn Sedgwick, said: "Every child took part and they all did so well.
"It also meets the Government's Every Child Matters criteria, whereby the children are safe, healthy, raising money and achieving something rewarding.
"Being impaired myself I feel the charity is a good one to chose as they helped me when I was younger.
"I always call it the invisible disease as someone looks perfectly normal.
"But being deaf as a child can often make you feel isolated.
"The charity helps deaf children come together and take part in activities, which is very important."
The run was the fifth time the school had organised the fundraiser.
