Sport & Fitness
Tai Chi is an old Chinese discipline which was developed to improve health.
Our form of Tai Chi is also a form of moving meditation. Focusing for the 20 minutes it takes to perform a 'set', banishes all other thoughts.
Tai Chi aims to gently correct posture & increase flexibility of the joints. All the major muscles & ligaments are slowly stretched, making them more elastic. This means that practising Tai Chi can generally relieve muscle pain & improve your muscle tone. This combination can help to relieve back pain & improve your joints. The increased muscle tone will help to improve bone strength & density, helping to fend off osteoporosis.
There are moves with lovely names such as ‘Cockerel stands on one leg’ that are based upon balancing. These help to strengthen your instep, improve your balance & general stability whilst also strengthening the thigh muscles.
