WE’VE all been there – after a few too many the night before, struggling to find the energy to get out of the house and feed our hangover hunger.

Now, teetotallers Luke Chequer and Charlotte Broadbridge have created The Hangover Man, a business intended to answer the demand for food for the morning after.

And the pair never imagined their unique morning-after delivery service would attract so much attention so quickly.

For just a few hours after setting up a Facebook page for The Hangover Man on January 24, they had more than 100 likes, and in 24 hours their audience had already exceeded 1,000 – despite the fact they were not due to open for business for another week.

After three days the numbers had reached 3,000, and by launch day on Friday, their cyber reach had grown to nearly 121,000 people.

Dad-of-two Luke, who plans to marry fiancee Charlotte this year, said: “Everyone knows what it’s like after you’ve been out on a big one, you don’t want to leave the house but you’re desperate for your cooked breakfast, or McDonald’s.

“You can’t find the paracetamol and you’ve run out of loo paper.

“Charlotte and I don’t really drink as much since our children were born, and Charlotte’s always the designated driver anyway, so we just thought it might be something people in Swindon would want.

“It also means that there really is no excuse to drink-drive the morning after if you can have it delivered straight to your door, and that has to be a good thing.

“I was inspired a bit by what a woman started in Kent, with something similar, and it’s proved really popular.

“We just thought we’d set it up and see how it went really.

“I thought it would start off quite small, just with our friends and family. I don’t think we expected quite so many people to be interested quite so quickly.”

The 28-year-old, who gave up a career in sales to retrain as an electirican, and who works part time at Tesco as a driver, spent a week ordering in chip-and-pin devices and putting in place the final nuts and bolts in preparation for the opening weekend.

He said: “We were originally going to do it just between ourselves, but we had no idea what to expect on Saturday. The main thing was getting the card-readers in.

“You know what it’s like, a lot of people just don’t have any cash the following day and it just made it easier for people.

“We’ve had to put everything in place really quickly and I’m so glad for Charlotte’s parents, who own APB Shopfitters, for all their advice and support.

“I’m just really hoping people realise we are still in the very early days and to bear with us a little bit.

“I just think if they are a bit patient and accept there might be some teething trouble, if it’s something Swindon wants, then here it is.

“Obviously things aren’t set in stone yet and things like what we can deliver, and our opening hours, will change depending on the feedback we get.

“The support so far – and the support from other businesses, like Richard from Cherry Designs, who’s helping us with our marketing, has just been incredible and I’m so grateful to them.”

The Hangover Man will work purely as a distributor, and already have a number of suppliers signed up.

The idea is that people can call The Hangover Man and place orders for food, drink and other items, which will then be brought straight to their door.

Currently, The Hangover Man operates from 8am to 1pm, Friday to Sunday.
