10 THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND SWINDON THIS WEEKEND

1.  Swindon Museum and Art Gallery are hosting a talk on their latest exhibition – Turner – Watercolours from the West, on Saturday at 7.30pm. Sam Smiles is Professor of Art History & Visual Culture, at the University of Exeter. This talk will focus on Turners explorations and images of the region, including Bath, Malmesbury, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Stourhead and Fonthill. Tickets are free but it is advisable to book to avoid disappointment. 2.  Henning Wehn will be at the Wyvern on Saturday from 8pm. Henning’s recent TV and radio appearances include various 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You, Room 101 and Newsnight. Tickets cost £16 and are available from the Swindon Theatres Box Office on 01793 524481.

3. Lawn Photographic Association will host a talk and presentation by Chris Duffy at Lawn Community Centre from 2pm on Sunday. The talk will focus on the life and wrok of iconic photographer Brian Duffy, including images and video interviews followed by a Q&A. tICKETS ARE £10. 

4. Mini Diesel Gala at Swindon and Cricklade Railway. Two Diesel trains will be running at the railway on Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4pm, alternating with approximately a 30 minute service. Adult tickets are £9, concessions £8 and children £5. 

5. Swindon Town players from the past will don their boots again to raise money for five-year old Charlie Allen, who was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year. Kick off is at 2pm on Sunday at Swindon Supermarine. Tickets are £5 per adult and £2 for children.

6. The Queen's Knickers at the Arts Centre on Saturday from 2pm - the children's classic is a celebration of the garments we all wear but never show told by two elastic actors. Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £32 for a family.

7. Swindon Wildcats are at home to Guildford Flames on Saturday at the Link. Face off is at 6pm. To book tickets call 01793 886857.

8. The mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett Sue Hughes will celebrate the contribution made by volunteers at St Bartholomew and All Saints Church on Sunday at 3pm. There will be refreshments in the town hall following the service.

9. Swindon Farmers Market will be at the Outlet Village on Sunday from 10am to 4pm. There will be around 20 stalls to browse from fresh bread to cheeses and freshly harvested vegetables.

10. Poplar Jake & The Electric Delta Review CD launch gig takes place on Saturday night at the Wheatfsheaf from 9pm. The band will be playing all the tracks from the album plus much more. Entry is free and copies of the CD will be on sale throughout the evening.
