Summer might be just a distant memory now but a summer house tops the list of rooms people would like to add to their homes according to a new survey from David Wilson Homes.

The One Poll survey also revealed that a home cinema, luxury bathroom, games room or home gym were in the top five rooms people would have if money was no object.

The five star housebuilder, which has three developments across Wiltshire, said that while a summer house was the most wanted room, suggestions were as varied as a dance room, an aquarium, a bar and even a surfing room.

The survey revealed that 40 per cent of people would opt for a summer room with 37 per cent dreaming of a luxury bathroom or wet room and 28 per cent keen for a home cinema.

Interestingly the summer house was more popular with women than men and was the most popular option for those aged 35 years old and above.

Men were keener on the idea of a home cinema but the younger people asked said they would prefer a luxury bathroom.

“It seems that people have extremely varied tastes when it comes to dream rooms to add to their properties,” said David Wilson Homes sales director Louise Ware.

“While the top five were head and shoulders above any other options it was really interesting to see how many different rooms were suggested.”

She said the number of people keen to add a conservatory, have a hobby room, a walk-in wardrobe and a big kitchen supports the housebuilder’s flexible living designs in its larger homes.

“We know that flexible living is key for people with large families, regular visitors and those who work from home but this survey really highlights the many different rooms people would love to have and how a flexible layout with plenty of space can fulfil their dreams.”
