Linden Homes were delighted to show the future of house building, to the future of Swindon with a comprehensive Open Doors week for local students. The national initiative which encourages young people to explore their local construction sites, took place at Linden Homes' development at Abbey Farm.

The housebuilder, that is currently delivering 122 new family homes to the community, explained to students from Abbey Park School the intricacies of designing and building award-winning new homes.

The 15 students from Year 10 enjoyed a tour of the Abbey Farm site, and talks from different members of the Linden Homes team, taking them through the process. Experts from the development team were also on hand to answer questions and demonstrate the wide range of careers available in the housing and development sector.

Simon Pendlebury, Managing Director for Linden Homes Thames Valley said: “We were thrilled to welcome the students of Abbey Park school down to our development to give them a tour of the site and show them the homes we are bringing to their local area. The students were hugely engaged with the team and had lots of questions about the process and the goings-on on site, and we were thrilled to give them a first-hand, behind the scenes glance into what goes in to making a Linden home.

“The housebuilding industry continues to prosper, and as the demand for high-quality homes increases, we are constantly on the look-out for new talent to encourage into the sector. Schemes such as our own Management Trainee scheme offers school leavers a springboard into their construction career, and allows them to try and test the many different routes and avenues that the industry can take them down.

“It was a wonderful day with the students from Abbey Park School and we were hugely pleased to be able to open their eyes to the opportunities available to them with a career in the field.”

Linden Homes is committed to encouraging more young talent into the sector, and ensuring young people have the opportunity to find their feet and discover their talents as part of the Linden Homes team. The housebuilder’s Management Trainee scheme allows school leavers to earn and learn simultaneously, gaining practical experience in their chosen department whilst working towards a relevant qualification. Open Doors Week gave aspiring young talent the perfect platform to find out more about the scheme and the opportunities available to them.
