DRUG police seized a machete and a gun from a house in Old Town - soon after recovering £3,000 worth of suspected crack cocaine and heroin.
Police swooped on the house on Wednesday after receiving a tip-off about a man acting suspiciously in Penzance Drive.
When police arrived at the road, at about 1pm, they approached the man but he ran off, dropping a carrier bag as he fled.
The bag contained what police believe to be £3,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine.
Soon afterwards officers from Swindon's dedicated drugs team obtained a warrant to search a house in Old Town where they recovered the machete and an air pistol.
Now police are appealing for help to trace the man who dropped the carrier bag.
"Inquiries are continuing at the location and into the identity of the offender," said Det Sgt Bob Cooper of Swindon CID.
"The man police want to talk to is described as mixed race, he was about 5ft 10ins tall and had a medium build.
"He was wearing a blue sports jacket and blue jeans."
Anyone with any information about the man is asked to call 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 500111.
