DRUGS police have issued a stark warning to users and dealers this week with two raids in Swindon.
Officers raided properties in Old Town and Eldene.
The lunchtime calm of the shopping precinct near Eldene community centre was shattered yesterday when police officers broke down the door of an upstairs flat.
And on Wednesday they seized a machete and a gun from a house in Old Town - soon after recovering £3,000 worth of suspected crack cocaine and heroin.
Police raided the Old Town property after receiving a tip-off about a man acting suspiciously in Penzance Drive.
When police arrived at the road, at about 1pm, they approached the man but he ran off, dropping a carrier bag as he fled.
The bag contained what police believe to be £3,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine.
Soon afterwards officers from Swindon's dedicated drugs team obtained a warrant to search a house in Old Town where they recovered the machete and an air pistol.
In Eldene yesterday police carried out a warrant at an upstairs flat at 2pm.
Officers ran through the shops by the community centre before climbing a stairwell and breaking down the blue door of the flat.
Local intelligence had led them to believe there were large quantities of drugs inside.
They spoke with a woman at the flat and found a small quantity of Class A drugs.
PC Rachel Catling, area officer for Liden and Eldene, Covingham and Nythe, said: "We entered the property and found a small amount of Class A drugs for personal use.
"We have spoken to the occupants but have decided not to make any arrests at this time.
"The man living at the flat was known to police."
Officers are appealing for help to trace the man who dropped the carrier bag in Old Town.
"Inquiries are continuing at the location and into the identity of the offender," said DS Bob Cooper of Swindon CID.
The man police want to talk to is described as mixed race.
He was about 5ft 10ins tall and had a medium build.
He was wearing a blue sports jacket and blue jeans.
Anyone with any information about the man is asked to call 0845 408 7000.
Alternatively, people can contact the Crimestoppers service anonymously by calling 0800 500111.
