TWELVE months ago I decided that 2008 would be the year I stuck to my New Year’s resolution to lose some weight.
And the fact that the paper was running our Shape Up Swindon campaign seemed as good a reason as any to think that I might stick to it.
To be honest, I was fairly pessimistic about how much I would lose - I had a target in my head but it seemed a long way off.
So on a cold January evening I went along to my first Slimming World meeting. And I haven’t looked back.
I’ve found it really easy to follow and haven’t ever felt like I was having to go hungry.
Plus, I could still eat pasta, rice and potatoes - which have usually ended up being my downfall.
Since then I’ve dropped two dress sizes and lost almost three stone.
If anyone is thinking about losing a few pounds in the New Year, go for it.
I found going to a weekly meeting really helpful, and the majority of them have registration offers come January 1.
I was lucky and found the right ‘plan’ for me straightaway, and have managed to stick to it - and I haven’t been a saint, as anyone who has seen me with a glass of wine in my hand on a weekend will tell you - but I think I’ve got the balance right.
For 2009, my resolution is to hit the target I had in my head last January, when it seemed like an impossibility.
But I’m sure I can do it.
